Summer is finally upon us, and what better way to release those pent up frustrations you’ve been harboring towards those pesky finals than to get your creative juices flowing? First, let your mind wander to the near future – that exciting day when you get to move into your new dorm room or apartment and the decorating begins! Thinking about how to decorate your new place is fun, but soon dollar signs start flashing in your eyes and the dream of luxury starts to crumble – but this doesn’t have to be the case if you’re willing to put in a little elbow grease. Here are my top four, easiest DIY decorating ideas that are sure to have your place (and mine!) looking fresh and fun at a minimal price!

Showcase With Picture Frames!

Think frames can only be used for pictures and mirrors? Not so! Hunt down
old frames at your local thrift store, Habitat Restore, or even your
mom’s attic, and with a quick coat of paint (or not!),
use them to showcase your jewelry or as a cute place to keep your keys!

Revamp That Lamp!

A great way to personalize your space is to turn a boring canvas lampshade
into a piece of art! Find an inexpensive white or non-printed lamp shade at almost
any local home store and pick up a fabric paint-pen in a color of your choice at a
craft store (like Hobby Lobby). Using the paint-pen, simply write your favorite quote
or Bible verse, or draw a cute pattern, around the shade, let it dry, and voilà!

Transform a Window!

Again, hit up your local Habitat Restore to find cheap four or six paned windows –
the more beat up the better! Paint a couple glass panes with chalkboard paint
(find at Lowes), cut and attach a piece of cork (find at Hobby Lobby) with adhesive, and
you’ve got your own custom bulletin board!

Jars and Bottles Galore!

Jars and bottles are usually associated with jelly and jam, for
containing flour and sugar on the kitchen counter, or for miscellaneous
beverages – however, they can be used in a million fun and unique
ways! Showcase your bracelets with olive oil bottles on your dresser,
fill mason jars with sand or marbles and place a votive candle inside for
some atmosphere, or even just use them as simple flower vases! The list
of possibilities goes on, so use your imagination!
