Campus Cutie: Elisa Cordova

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ASU chapter.

Name: Elisa Cordova (everyone calls me Little One)

Major/minor: Journalism – emphasis in Print, broadcast and digital media, Minor – Spanish

Year: Senior

Relationship status: Single

Hometown: Mesa, Arizona

Why did you choose this major?

When I was a little girl I used to make people listen to me, as I’d tell them stories. My mother is also a journalist and her work has inspired me tremendously. Whether I’m telling a story through writing, a photo or a video I’m doing what I love and what I’m good at. I’m a storyteller.

What’s your biggest accomplishment so far?

I’ve had a lot of accomplishments so far such as landing great internships, getting my articles published in various newspapers and online publications, etc. Watching myself grow as a person these past four years has been a thrilling ride. Knowing who I want to be and where I want to be in life is an accomplishment itself.

Best college memory?

One of the best memories I have from college is the day I met my best friend. I was paired up for an assignment in my psychology class with the only girl I disliked. Sitting next to her and talking to her that day was terrible. That assignment is what made us sisters. It’s funny how things work.

Is there anything else you want to do before graduation?

As strange as it sounds, enjoying late-night study sessions. Before I know it I’ll be 40 and wishing I were in school again. Also, I absolutely must attend one more ASU football game. Go Sun Devils!

Who do you draw style inspiration from?

My style is very random. There are some days where I’ll want to where a cute dress with heels and others where I’ll just throw on my favorite pair of Nikes and Under Armour leggings. For the most part, I get my inspiration from fashion magazines and even movies. I’m sure every other girl would agree with me when saying that I could spend an entire day on Pinterest.

What are some of your favorite styles this season?

Oversized coats/sweaters and leather pieces are definitely some of my favorite styles this season.

What would be your ideal date?

This is a tough one because as much as I love chick flicks, especially The Notebook, my ideal date is nowhere near romantic. Taking me to a burger joint would satisfy me. I prefer a double burger patty, medium rare, everything on it, a side of sweet potato fries with barbeque sauce and/or ranch, and a large vanilla milkshake. Don’t forget the cherry on top! If they don’t have any milkshakes at the burger joint, I’ll take a 20 oz. Kilt Lifter!

What’s the first thing you look for in a person, whether it is a new friend or significant other?

The first thing I look for in a person, new friend or a significant other, is loyalty. Without loyalty there is no trust and without both of those things there is no relationship. A wise woman, who I hold very close to my heart, once said that in order to decide if someone is your friend they must bring lightness to the relationship and be willing to share their pain, as well as help ease yours. My significant other better have a good sense of humor too because I know some killer knock-knock jokes.

Favorite food?

Without a doubt macaroni and cheese. Thick and creamy, three cheesy, the cheesiest you name it!  My tummy loves it all.

Favorite movie?

I don’t have one favorite movie in particular. It all just depends on my mood. If I’m feeling like a bad ass I’ll watch Gran Torino or anything similar. If I’m in the holiday spirit I’ll watch The Family Stone. I won’t stop laughing if you make me watch Elf. Unless you are willing to hear me the entire time don’t put it on. I absolutely love Disney movies and yes, I LOVE TWILIGHT. Get over it.

Celebrity crush(es)?

I don’t know what this world would be like without Channing Tatum’s stripper moves and Ryan Gosling’s abs. James Franco, Johnny Depp, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham are also some of my favorites. Unfortunately, I need to remain loyal to George Clooney. He is for sure the sexiest silver fox I ever did see!

What are some of your hobbies and what do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to work out. If I’m not at school or at work you can usually find me at the gym. I enjoy doing things outdoors such as snowboarding and mountain biking. I’d spend the rest of my life on a beach if I could. Painting, doing DIY crafts, dancing and playing the piano are also some of my hobbies. The list is infinite.

Who are your biggest influences in life and why?

My biggest influences in my life are my parents. My father almost passed away last summer and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. The strength both of them had during this time has made me a fighter.  Giving up isn’t an option no matter how hard the challenge.

Do you have a weird talent?

Everything about me is weird.

Biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve in the entire world is when people confuse the words “your” and “you’re.” “There,” They’re” and “their.” “Then” and “than.” Other pet peeves I have are slow walkers, loud chewers and when my earphones get tangled.

My name is Alejandra Guillen and I am a junior at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and at Barrett, the Honors College. As most people do, I enjoy sleep, food (especially of the breakfast, gravy and meat varieties), and Ryan Gosling.
