As soon as August rolls around, there is only one thing that many girls at the U of A have on their mind: sorority recruitment. Freshman and upper classmen alike are nervous, excited, and ready to gain new sisters. It is a stressful yet happy time for everyone. Despite everything you might hear about recruitment, there is always a side of it that most college girls forget about, which is being a Gamma Chi.

What is a Gamma Chi: For those who are not aware, a Gamma Chi is a disaffiliated recruitment counselor for the girls that are going through the recruitment process, helping them choose which chapter they should belong in and are with them throughout the process every step of the way. The hours are long, but putting time into these girls and being their leader through what is usually a very stressful week is incredibly rewarding.

Why you should be a Gamma Chi: Being a Gamma Chi was honestly one of the best decisions I have made in college thus far. In just one short week, I was challenged to be the best version of myself I learned how to deal and gained leadership skills I never thought I was even capable of having. I learned how to be emotionally in control of situations, made countless new friends, and had the opportunity to represent Greek Life in a positive way. Being away from your sisters may be hard during recruitment week, but helping these women through the recruitment process and guiding them into the best four years of their life is an experience I wouldn’t have traded for the world.
