Beauty on a Budget: Top 5 Drugstore Brand Makeup Products

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Arizona chapter.

1)   Bikini Zone Anti-Bumps Shave Gel- There is nothing, I repeat nothing worse than an irritated bikini area.  It is one of the most difficult and sensitive places to shave. When you do shave there you are at risk of razor burn, itching, redness and more.  But if you are like me, and like to have shall we say a clean slate down there, this is the product for you.  This product has ingredients that fight bumps and irritation, leaving you with soft, clear and smooth skin.  A four-ounce bottle of this product sells for $5 at almost every CVS and Target.

2)   Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner-  If you wear eye makeup, you better make space for this in your makeup bag.  This is the best liquid liner I have ever used.  Have an unsteady hand, and are not the best at liquid liner? Worry not. The thick short wand and applicator make for extremely controlled application, lasting all day. Nothing short of oil based makeup remover will remove this from your eyelids.  If you want to rule our running, smearing, and smudging then I suggest you pick it up at a store nearby.  It comes in Blackest Black, and Black/Brown.

3)   CoverGirl Clean Makeup Foundation- I am always on a hunt for the next big thing in drugstore foundation. No one likes to smear gooey, smelly mystery foundation on your face, that can be found in the darkest crevices at your local CVS.  You need to know your makeup and make sure it works well with your complexion.  The last thing you want is to create oily pimples, zits, and rashes.  This foundation is the best drug store foundation I have used in a long time.  It comes in 14 different shades, so you can find the perfect shade for your skin-tone, and it has a fresh clean scent. The best thing about this foundation is that there are three different types to choose from; Sensitive Skin, Oil Control, and Normal Skin.  This way you can buy a foundation that was made specifically for your face.  This full coverage foundation goes for $8 a bottle and is well worth it.

4)   CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara- Hands down, the best mascara I have ever used.  The formula lengthens, thickens and curls your eyelashes (I have been asked if I was wearing false eyelashes.)  At the affordable price of $5, there is no reason not to buy this on your next Target run.

5)   Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm- I do not leave my dorm without making sure this lip balm is in my backpack, pocket, purse, wallet, cellphone case, gym bag, or bra.  Hey girls, gotta have backup.  This product isn’t overly waxy, it tastes minty on your lips, it keeps them extremely moisturized and it tingles. Another plus? It is $2!  Now would be the time to get your lip balm.
