A Beautiful Balance of Drama and Comedy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Arizona chapter.

Everybody in college knows what a wonderful thing Netflix is. It provides hours of entertainment and obscure television shows that you can get lost in. Netflix is especially dangerous for me because I am an avid TV lover. With my ultimate goal in life being writing for television it only makes sense that I get wrapped up in the worlds on my little screen.

I used to spend free time just browsing through Netflix watching things that sounded interesting, movies, TV shows, documentaries, everything. This browsing is how I came across things like “Better Off Ted” and “180 degrees South.” But sometimes I need to watch something that I’m familiar with.

Over the past few weeks I have been both re-experiencing and newly discovering the wonderful show of “Scrubs.” I had watched this show before but only in bits and pieces, random episodes here and there with my boyfriend filling in information for me on the episodes I had missed. But this time I am watching the show completely from beginning to end.

Right now I’m on the sixth season out of eight “good” seasons, as my boyfriend puts it. A ninth season was filmed but with the loss of the main character played by Zach Braff, the last season just couldn’t compare with the rest of the show.

“Scrubs” is a really great show with really amazing characters. It’s these great characters that really make the show what it is. The show takes place in a hospital and revolves follows three of about four main characters through their internships into being full-fledged doctors, but the show isn’t really about being a doctor. It’s about life and relationships and the struggles that are universal to people whether you’re a doctor, a student, or a stay-at-home parent.

It’s a really amazing show with a great cast and the perfect balance of drama and comedy and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good show to watch.
