What is the Hype About Face Masks?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Trends in beauty products and skin care come and go in massive tsunami waves.

Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with what is in and what is not, or what ingredients are good for your skin versus ingredients that are not. It seems like one week, it is cool to use 100% all natural and organic products, and then the next week, it is cool to use something completely different. So what seems to be the hype trend right now? Face masks, all the way.

As you know from my previous Lush product reviews, I have very sensitive skin, so I am very limited with the products I am able to use. I was very skeptical of face masks at first because I was so afraid that it would make my face break out or, worst case scenario, I would get an allergic reaction.

I finally broke down and tried one, and let me tell you, I am a woman changed. I absolutely love the face masks I have tried. There are two that I want to tell you about in this article.

The first one I ever tried is the Cosmetic Warrior face mask from Lush. Here I go again, raving about this line, but I really have never tried a product from Lush that I didn’t like. I originally went in the store looking for a different face mask, but they were out of stock, so I took a chance on this one.

Cosmetic Warrior is a blend of egg whites and honey with a int of garlic and tea tree oil. The egg whites and honey tighten and smooth out pores. The garlic and tea tree oil cleanses the face with a refreshing feel. Because of the eggs and garlic in the mask, this one has to be refrigerated or it will go bad. These two ingredients also cause the mask to have kind of an odd odor, but the results make it so worth it.

The first time I used this face mask, I was shocked when I woke up the next morning to my face clear and my complexion (almost) flawless. I read more about this particular mask, and this formula is perfect for troubled skin, just like mine. It gives the face a break from harsh cleansers that can sometimes make your acne worse. It really evened out my skin tone, enough to where I didn’t have to wear any face makeup at all the next day. That is something I NEVER do.

This mask is great. I am a true believer in the Cosmetic Warrior. To use it, just wet your face a little bit and smooth the mask all over your face. Leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then use warm water to rinse it off, gently massaging your face as you do so. It will harden a little bit in those 15 minutes that it is on your skin, but it will still come off very easily without any trouble.

The second mask is also a Lush product (big shocker there, huh?)! It is called Cup o’ Coffee and I bet you can’t guess the main ingredient in this one!

Just kidding, it is obviously coffee beans! This one is great because it does not have to be refrigerated like the Cosmetic Warrior needs to be. This one has a strong coffee scent, so for me, it is heaven. Some people don’t like the smell as much, but smell or not, it works wonders for the skin.

This mask contains Kaolin, which deep cleans the junk out of your pores. It also has ground coffee beans in it and that acts as a scrub that gets rid of all of the dead skin and quite literally makes your skin glow. It is awesome for very dry skin, just like mine. You can even use it on your entire body in dry areas.

You use this mask the exact same way as the Cosmetic Warrior. Just wet your face a little bit, smooth on the coffee amazingness, leave on for about 15 minutes, and then massage as you rinse with warm water.

I am really glad that I broke down and tried some face masks because they really are great for your skin. It just depends on the kind you use. Try and find face masks with all natural ingredients because these are less likely to irritate and dry out your skin. You have to know your skin to know what types of products will work best for you.

I am now a true believer in the power of a good face mask to refresh and rejuvenate your skin. Invite your best friends over for a night of movies, wine, and face masks to find your favorite one! The hype is definitely on point for face masks.
