Registration for spring semester classes is just a few days away. Most of us know the sometimes tear-jerking, and always stressful, process of registering for classes. Freshmen will soon become privy to this task and then will promptly miss the days of luxury of being registered for a schedule made by an advisor. That was the life.

Phase one: Get pumped up.

This is the 15 minutes or so, before it’s time to register for your classes. You look at the schedule you’ve perfectly plotted out and check the openings to make sure yours is still there. There’s only one spot left in that 12 o’clock class you want, but you know what? You will not panic.

This is a battle. All these thousands of students are registering for classes at the same time as you. That one spot left in class? It’s yours. You will not take an 8 a.m. You will have no Friday classes. That annoying guy that you’ve had in your past three classes in your major will not get the last spot in the hot professor’s class. You deserve it. Your schedule and life will be perfect next semester.

Song suggestions:

“All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled featuring Ludacris, Rick Ross, T-Pain and Snoop Dogg

“Enter Sandman” by Metallica

“Power” by Kanye West

“Run this Town” by Jay-Z

Phase two: Let’s do this.

It’s time. You feel your heart racing, but ignore it. This is the time for your cat-like reflexes. All those hours upon hours you spend texting each day? They’ve helped build up your endurance. You will type in your classes at the speed of light. You will anticipate your opponent’s every move. ASULearn freezing and rejecting your class submission will not discourage you; you will keep trying. In The Notebook, Noah had to ask Allie out several times before she said yes. Be Noah. Go for the gold.

Song suggestions:

“Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses

“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor

“We Will Rock You” by Queen

“Who Gon Stop Me” by Kanye West and Jay-Z

Phase three: Unavoidable disappointment.

So… You ended up with about half of your perfect schedule. Better luck next year. You have one professor who has a long list of haters on ratemyprofessors.com and that class you really need to graduate only ended up being available as a MWF 9 a.m. Life is hard, but you’ll be ok and life goes on. There’s always next semester.

Song suggestions:

“Let it Go” by Idina Menzel

“Best Thing I Never Had” by Beyoncé

“Irreplaceable” by Beyoncé

“Survivor” by Destiny’s Child
