Meet Cam Hunt: All American Man

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Year: Senior

Hometown: Waxhaw, North Carolina

Major: Construction Management

Relationship Status: Taken

Cam Hunt is one of the hardest-working men at Appalachian. When he’s not tutoring students in difficult construction management classes, he’s calling plays on the field as president of the rugby team.  Lucky for me, he dates my roommate, so I was able to snag him for a chat.

Cam starts every day bright and early, a self-proclaimed morning man. “If I eat my oatmeal before 9, it’s going to be a good day.” After breakfast, he rushes to campus to clock some hours in the library before his classes.

Cam’s major, construction management, is both rewarding and challenging. Construction management is the closest major to engineering at Appalachian State. “I’ve always felt like this would be a good fit for me because I love working with my hands previously and I wanted to learn more about it at high education. I’ve realized now that it’s a lot more analytical than I thought. I’ve taken classes ranging from architectural design to civil and structural engineering. It’s a lot more than just a hammer and nails.”

Perhaps the coolest benefits of Cam’s major are the internship opportunities and the high hiring rates. For example, he has worked with a student housing and furniture company for the past eight years, allowing him the opportunity to travel to over 35 different states, ranging anywhere from Alabama to Iowa, where he installs furniture in dorms.

While he enjoys traveling around the US, Cam always loves coming home to Appalachian, and the AHO Rugby team that he leads. He started playing his senior year of high school, and was excited to find the club as soon as he arrived his freshmen year at App. “I feel like it’s much more than a club sport,” Cam said. “I feel like we really have a strong brotherhood and strong traditions, on and off the field. We’re more than just teammates; these boys are my best friends, I live with them, I travel with them, and they’re going to be my friends long after college.”

“My sophomore year, I knew that I wanted to get involved. My sophomore year I was treasurer, and have been president the past two years. Being an officer has drastically improved my college experience,” Cam said of his experience as an officer.

While his leadership skills are obvious, his best quality is probably his kindness. Cam has never met a stranger and loves making new friends. So if you happen to see him studying in the library, or running through campus for rugby practice, make sure to say hello.
