How To Get Ready Fast When You’ve Overslept

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

We’ve all done it… In the midst of our sleepy mornings we accidentally hit snooze on our alarms a few too many times, and sometimes our alarms don’t go off at all. The stress of a crazy morning is like no other, but don’t let all the madness of waking up late ruin your entire day.

Here are some great tips to get ready in a pinch when you oversleep.

Hint: If you’re one of those people that has trouble waking up with an alarm, try this trick: Set several alarms in ten minute intervals before you actually need to be awake. (7:20 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 7:40 a.m., 7:50 a.m., then finally the real wakeup time, 8:00). This helps you wake up slowly, instead of all at once. The most important part of a morning routine is timing, because, let’s face it–in college, we all have somewhere to be or something to do in a hurry.

Dry Shampoo

This is something great to keep on hand. Typically, when you wake up late, you really don’t have time to shower.

Tip: Flip your hair over and spray your dry shampoo. Do a few other things, grab your back pack, or throw some snacks in your purse quickly. This allows the dry shampoo to absorb the oil at your roots. THEN, brush out your hair from root to tip, that’s what gives the clean, lifted look! Try out Tresemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo $6.

Makeup Wipes

The worst thing to wake up to is a face full of nasty, day-old makeup. If you were up late doing homework, chances are you didn’t get a chance to wash your makeup off. Invest in some good makeup wipes that are gentle on the skin. Use these to quickly wipe away yesterday’s flaky mascara or foundation. Try out Aveeno ultra calming makeup wipes. $7.Tip: Add a bit of face lotion to these to moisturize while you clean up your face!

BB Cream

BB Creams are fast and easy. They’re great for minimizing pores, evening skin tone, and giving you that flawless, dewy look that we all love. When you’re in a hurry, or on the go, BB cream is a makeup must have.

Tip: Put two or three drops on your clean finger tips and use circular motions to apply! Try out Garnier Skin Renew BB. $11.

Clothing Rolls

If you have a clear shoe holder, these are great to hang up on the back of your door in your dorm, or even on command hooks inside of your closet. To really save time in the mornings, and especially if you’re running late, keep some of your favorite combos of Norts, leggings, and t-shirts rolled up and stuffed in the clear pockets. If you want to, you can even throw a sports bra in there. This definitely minimizes time, and keeps you looking sporty cute on mornings when you’ve overslept. (Check out this picture where someone organized their supplies with one!)

Breakfast

And last but not least, don’t forget breakfast! The biggest mistake that we make in the mornings is skipping breakfast. Now, not only are you late, but your body is running on empty! Keep breakfast bars, fruit and water bottles on hand at all times in your room. That way, even if you’re running late, you’re never running on empty! Also, to start your day off a bit better after a rough morning, try taking a multi-vitamin. Some of these have a little bit of caffine, and they can really get you going in the morning, and they’re also great for your nails, hair and energy levels throughout the day. $7.

Other Great tips for a hectic morning:

-Always keep baby wipes on hand to freshen up if you don’t have time to shower.

-If you forget to brush your teeth, oral B Brush-ups are great to keep in your back pack, just to save you from bad breath until you can make it back to your dorm!

Try to always pack your bookbag the night before. Just look at your schedule and make sure you have the right textbooks in your bag, along with the homework due for the next day.

Incase you forgot to put on deodorant, hand sanitizer can neutralize scents, but do not use too often because it will dry out the skin of your armpits, and can make it flaky. Definitely can be used in a pinch, but be sure to rinse as soon as you get home.
