Finding Closet Inspiration During Season Transitions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

It’s no secret that most of us here in Boone have spring fever, especially when it comes to our closets. With midterms upon us and the end of the semester and the school year fast approaching, school work is piling on and it’s enough to drive a girl crazy waiting for summer. Even though it’s not quite time to break out those scalloped shorts and metallic sandals, here are some things to look forward to in this in-between, transitional time where we feel stuck between hibernation and the summer sun.

-Just because you can’t wear those cute new hot pink shorts yet doesn’t mean the not-yet-warm wardrobe isn’t ready for spring colors. Kate Spade’s ad campaigns said it best when they stress “a pop of color, a dash of sparkle.” Break out of the neutral rut that your basic winter outer-layers has had you in for the past few months and set your sights on a colored trench or punchy flats. For an even quicker fix, pick up a bright new shade of lip color next time you’re grocery shopping. Just make sure to test how it looks against your complexion indoors as well as outside before you commit to a full day on campus with it.

1. For those of us who are still holding off on buying warm weather clothes as soon as they hit store windows, there is nothing wrong with finding a couple new season-neutral accessories to put an extra spring in your step without looking like you’re jumping the gun. A couple dainty little stacking rings or a pair of oversized stud sparklers like these at Bauble Bar in a pretty color will surely help tide you and your scarves and boots over till it’s time to pack them up.

2. Now is the time that you can start to pack up those cold weather clothes that are really only reserved for full-blown winter season. Free up some room in your closet by starting to phase out your flannel, fur, cords, thicker insulating sweaters, and snow boots. Make sure to keep some of your colder weather gear accessible just in case a freak snowstorm decides to grace Boone after our dull winter—but for now, you’re safe to put these things in a box under your bed. Make sure to donate or get rid of anything that doesn’t fit anymore or that you didn’t wear all year. More room for warm weather clothes!

3. Take some time to sit down with a new magazine or any one of our spring fashion articles like this one to  find some new inspiration and take inventory of what you already have in your spring and summer wardrobe. Is it time to finally replace those cut-offs that are dangerously close to showing your butt, Jersey Shore-style? Map out all the updates you need to make and decide what you really need to invest in during your spring shopping as opposed to impulse-buying your way through the mall.

4. Since it’s not quite time to totally turn your wardrobe over to a whole new season, consider trying a new hair cut or color to brighten your spirits for the tail-end of winter. It’s only a matter of time until we have a little more color on our skin and a trip to the salon for a new look can be a great way to refresh your look and mindset for these last couple months of school. Not willing to part with your tried and true style? Try a pedicure in your favorite new color or schedule a blow-out for your next special occasion. However materialistic, sometimes it’s the little luxuries that make you feel your best and give you the motivation to take on your daunting to-do list at the end of the semester.
