Fall means the leaves are changing, the PSL is back, Halloween, and movie marathons.

Here’s a Boone Fall Bucket list that will fit all of your fall needs:

1. Have a bonfire. Bonfires are an essential part of fall. Grab some friends, gather some wood, and sit around a nice warm fire and make some s’mores.

2. Drink a pumpkin spice latte. Thank the Lord we have a Starbucks in Boone! It’s located in the Harris Teeter for those of you that don’t know. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are so basic, but they’re so good. If you want the taste of fall, go get a grande PSL.

3. Carve pumpkins. It’s a tradition that should always be kept. Pumpkins are cheap at Walmart and they have some that look great. Pinterest is also good for getting ideas when you’re stuck and don’t want to go the original route.

4. Go to a Corn Maze/Pumpkin Patch. There are several corn mazes and pumpkin patches around Boone. New River Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is located just outside of Boone near Rocky Knob MTB Park off 421. They have everything – a pumpkin patch, a haunted corn maze, hay rides, and train rides. This is also a great location to take an Instagram-worthy picture with your girlfriends or significant other.

5. Attend a Thursday Night Football Game. We have two this year. The first is October 22 and again on November 5. Everyone still seems to be steaming over the parking decision, but Thursday night football games are a new and exciting event here at App and should be experienced at least once.

6. Drink Apple cider. Again, if you want the taste of fall, drink this delectable treat. You can make homemade cider easily in a crockpot, or buy a half-gallon and heat it up in a mug.

7. Watch ABC Family’s 13 Nights of Halloween. This is a given. It’s basically a sin to miss the 13 Nights of Halloween special on ABC Family.

6. Get a pumpkin spice milkshake from Come Back Shack. Sure the Nutella milkshake is great, but it’s fall, and everything we eat must be pumpkin spice.

9. Have a scary movie marathon. The Halloween movies are the holy grail of Halloween scary movies, but there are other movies out there worthy of binge watching. Poltergeist, The Exorcist, The Blair Witch Project, all the Paranormal Activity movies, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Shining are all good choices.

10. Binge on Halloween candy. Somehow, holiday themed candy always tastes better than the original. Channel your inner child and load up on all the tasty treats you used to collect on Halloween as a kid. PSA, they make pumpkin spice Hershey Kisses!

11. Dress up. You’re never too old to dress up for Halloween. Pinterest has a lot of fun ideas for costumes that you can try out or you can get a group together and do something. Even if you’re not planning on going out, dressing up on Halloween will definitely put you in the holiday spirit.

12. Get Krispy Kreme Donuts. Sadly, our Krispy Kreme isn’t open yet, but Lenoir isn’t that far away! Krispy Kreme has some awesome fall themed donuts. Also, during football season, the Monday after the Panthers win, you can get a dozen original glazed donuts for $3.99 in North and South Carolina.

13. Go Hiking. The Blue Ridge parkway has some beautiful hiking trails. It’s color season, which means the leaves are changing, which means the views will take your breath away. Some trails worth hiking include Beacon Heights, Rough Ridge, Moses Cone Park, and The Cascades.

14. Have a Friendsgiving. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a nice Friendsgiving dinner with your friends. Even if you do take-out or a potluck, being with your friends and celebrating always equals a good time.

15. Bake all the things. Fall is the perfect time of the year for baking. There are tons of delicious recipes out there. Even if you’re not a fan of pumpkin, there are different kinds of fall recipes you should try out. If you’ve never tried apple pie in a slow cooker you’re missing out!

There’s nothing like being in the mountains during fall. Take advantage of what’s around you, and get into the fall spirit!
