The Best Tanning Product You Will Ever Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Boone winters can be incredibly harsh. We’ve been lucky this year so far, but that doesn’t stop the fact that our summer tans are long gone and we are faced with nothing but bleak options when it comes to our skin. As someone who highly appreciates the value of a quality tan, I have tried everything. From lotions, to foams, to wipes, to yes… the tanning bed, I have never been pleased with any of the outcomes. Lotions and foams often require usage more than once a day, if you really need it to work, and they undoubtedly make your clothes/sheets/towels smell like fake tan, even the products that claim “no unwanted scent!”

The tanning bed, obviously, is the most unsatisfying option. It’s expensive, and the never-ending guilt that comes with each trip is a constant reminder that we are destroying our skin. This article doesn’t need to quote the multitude of research surrounding the dangers of tanning beds, everyone already knows and sometimes chooses to ignore the scary and undesirable reality. So where does that leave us? Seeing ourselves tagged in photos that suggest that we have a chronic illness? Even girls with non-pale skin tones see at least one picture per winter that make them double-take and cringe at how white they’ve gotten. It’s the truth, everyone looks better with a little color on their skin, but no one wants to do the work that it takes to get a good (and safe) tan.

Enter: True Blue spa fast drying, all angle airbrush tan from Bath and Body Works. The name may seem a bit overwhelming, like there isn’t any way that this product can really encompass all these things. It does. At around a $15 price tag, this aerosol spray tan is undoubtedly the easiest and most successful tanning product that I have ever tried. While these types of products can always yield different results on different types of skin, I have had nothing but positive outcomes when using this sun-in-a-bottle.

The directions are simple and straightforward, but what this label doesn’t tell you is that it really works. If you do it right, you won’t get weird dark spots, or streaks, or orange skin. The product is a fine mist that you simply spray over your entire body, or wherever color is desired. The nozzle is designed to allow spraying from any angle, making it even easier to use on yourself. You can shower after an hour of spraying, removing any trace of that weird smell and allowing you to carry on with the rest of your day free of odor. The color will develop over the next several hours, giving you a completely natural color all-over.

Keep in mind, strangers are not going to compliment you on your “back from Cancun” tan when they see you, as this is not a heavy product and must be used diligently and thoroughly to achieve a “deep” tan. You will however, look healthy and completely at your best, far enough away from the worst pale that winter plague you with. Now that I’ve tried this, I don’t know that I’ll ever use another fake tanning product again besides this. This is the ideal product for girls looking for color who would rather stay away from the dangers and inconveniences that come with other methods of bronzing.

Luckily, Bath and Body Works is one of the chain retail stores that Boone does have. So if you’re feeling pale and a little less than your best this winter, get yourself down to the mall and pick up one of these cans. Your self-esteem and your skin will surely thank you.
