The Best Places to See Fall Colors

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Fall is here and the leaves are changing. It’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the wonderful view of the mountains! We have put together a list of great places to go to enjoy the fall views.

Caldwell Community College

Located off of the 105 bypass, Caldwell Community College is a great place to watch the sunset. No hiking is required, just drive up and hang out in the parking lot. Feel free to bring snacks or a picnic and spend an evening watching the sunset and the gorgeous fall colors!

Howard’s Knob

Howard’s Knob overlooks the Town of Boone and the Appalachian campus. Another great place for a picnic and a short hike to see the view.

Price Lake

You can find Price Lake on the Blue Ridge parkway. The reflective water will make for an amazing view of the changing colors of the trees that surround the lake.

The Fire Tower at Moses Cone

A part of the Moses Cone Manor, the fire tower is at the end of the trail. This trail is great for running, horseback riding, and even just to hike. If you are afraid of heights, the firetower might not be for you, but it does make for a great view.

Beacon Heights

Located on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Beacon Heights is a short hike with a great view. Each side opens onto a huge rock where you can view the Blue Ridge Mountains and fall leaves.

Rough Ridge

A local favorite, Rough Ridge is a great hike with awesome views. This is a must for any Appalachian student, no matter the time of year. But if you are looking to experience the beauty of fall, this is the best place to go!

Boone is amazing when the leaves are changing. Make sure to get outside and enjoy these wonderful views!
