6 Apps to Make Travel Easier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

With all of the hustle and bustle before spring break, it is easy to forget something, or get lost on the way to your destination, but have no fear! Whether you are travelling out of the country, or just down the road to a new town, there are a few apps for your smartphone that may make your trip a little bit easier.

1.  Yelp

Yelp is an app that allows users to rate businesses and restaurants and write reviews. Going to an unknown city or town, it can be kind of hard to judge what may be a good place to eat breakfast or a fun place to shop. With Yelp, you can see what restaurants and stores are close by, and go off of their rating to make a decision. You also have the option of locating the top places to go in that city. Once you sign up, you can leave your own reviews for others to read!

2. Expensify

Expensify is designed for business trips so that you can keep track of your expenses for reimbursement, but for college students, this app can help you to record all of your spending and make sure you are not getting out of hand with your trip budget. We all know what it is like to look at your bank account and realize you might not be able to have as much fun as you intended for a trip, so keep track and budget your money properly! This app could also be used for everyday expenses on either a weekly or monthly scale.

4. City Guides, Offline Maps (or stay.com’s mobile app)

This app allows you to plan your tour of a city by clicking sites you wish to see and setting up an itinerary for yourself. Once you have a set itinerary, you can upload it to stay.com’s website and also have the chance to look at others’ itineraries for even more ideas!

5. Packing Pro

Before you get started on the road to your destination, it is important to make sure you have everything you need. Packing Pro is an app that creates a checklist of items to go through before you hit the road. You can customize your list to wherever you are headed, whether it be the beach, mountains, etc., by adding your own items. This is a great app to have to make sure you leave nothing behind!

6. iSunBurn

If you are traveling to an area with plenty of sunshine and UV rays, it is important to have this app. iSunBurn detects the UV rating of your current location, and has a timer to tell you when to re-lather your sunscreen. This app may seem like an excessive download, but it is easy to lose track of time when you are laying on the beach all day. Protect your skin and keep it healthy!

Planning a trip can sometimes feel overwhelming and stressful, but with these apps that help you cut corners, it can be fun and easy!
