Best Nail Colors for Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

The neon and pastel polishes might no longer be in season and nail art’s popularity is dying down, but deeper shades are hitting shelves at drugstores, Sephora and department stores and they’re perfect for fall.  A dark colored manicure is an inexpensive way to transition into cold-weather fashion.  Here are some of the best new nail colors for this season:

1.     Metallics are it for fall!  Lots of designers paired silver, chrome, or bronze nails with their fall collections.  Nars “Disco Inferno” ($19.00, Sephora) is a shimmery silver with purple undertones.  Less expensive silver alternatives include New York Color “Tribeca Silver” ($1.79 at drugstores), which provides good coverage for a drugstore polish, or Essie “No Place Like Chrome,” which retails for $8.00 in most drugstores.  Rose gold shades are in for fall, also.  Butter London’s “Champers” is a nice choice, and can be found at Sephora and ULTA both online and in-store.

2.     Plums and other deep purple shades have been go-to fall polishes for years, proving that they have serious staying power!  Dark purples are a good alternative if you don’t want to paint your nails black.  Essie “Devil’s Advocate” is a purple so deep that it appears black from afar, but a little more interesting!  It has good coverage and looks opaque after two coats.  It can be found at drugstores for $8.00.  Clinique “Black Honey” is a popular lip color, but the brand’s new line of hypoallergenic and long-wearing nail enamels features this shade as well.  It’s a little brighter and redder than “Devil’s Advocate” and more clearly purple.  Sephora carries this $12.50 polish.

3.     If you’re looking for something on the plainer side, a nude nail polish is the way to go.  Dior “Safari Beige” is a light, neutral tan that retails for $24.00 at department stores and Sephora.  Essie “Not Just a Pretty Face” is a pinkish nude appropriate for all occasions and seasons.
