What Movies Have to Teach Us About Food

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. But really, the way to my own heart is through cooking myself something absolutely delicious and having no shame sporting the wonderful food baby that follows the meal. Every time we turn on the TV we are flooded with commercials of food, but why do we ignore the food in those movies or shows we watch? We could really learn a thing or two about romantic or even just satisfying foods given to us through the timeless tales we all love to watch. Regardless of the occasion, whether it’s for Valentine’s Day/Singles Awareness day, a birthday, or just for the sake of eating good food, try out these foods that say I Love You, or even better, I Love Me.

Romance Under the Sea

The Little Mermaid taught us that crab, lobster, and seafood in general isn’t only our friend, but is absolutely delicious. Try out a romantic seafood dish like stuffed crab, crab dip, or shrimp scampi for that classy, special evening- just make sure to remember that forks are for eating, not for brushing your hair!

Life is Like A Box of Chocolates

Forrest Gump taught us that “Life is like a box of Chocolates”- but life definitely is nowhere near as delicious! A box of chocolates is perfect not only for a gift, but for spoiling yourself too. Godiva chocolates are always a must, and chocolate covered fruit is perfect for when you want to think you’re being healthy and eat as many as you’d like, guilt free! (PS-check out personalized M&M’s for that special occasion, to give a personal touch to something so yummy!)

Spaghetti and Meatballs al la Lady and the Tramp

Spaghetti and meatballs is probably the cutest meal in a movie of all time, not just because they are dogs. Boil some spaghetti and if you’re feeling brave, check out this recipe for homemade meatballs (you can even make them with turkey instead of beef!). You can even make your own tomato sauce, and add a side of garlic bread. Twirl up the pasta and have a romantic dinner like these two adorable pooches.

Hearty Candy Spaghetti

Buddy the Elf might know Santa but what he really knows best is how to make breakfast. That is, if you’re into the whole candy covered pasta thing. Let’s be real, it’s kind of something I’ve always wanted to try out, so why not? Top some pasta with any candy you can find, even chocolate syrup!

White Castle Burgers from Harold and Kumar

You don’t have to go to the extremes that Harold and Kumar did to simply get to that beautiful White Castle overflowing grease and “sliders”, but honestly, it would be so worth it. For a fast meal, or for a get-together with friends, pick up some White Castle burgers, fries, and onion rings for a guaranteed great time.

Ratatouille

Remember that cute little rat from Disney’s Ratatouille? If he can whip up a delicious meal, there’s no reason why you can’t too. The fun thing is that a meal like ratatouille can be made so many different ways, it’s impossible to go wrong! Whip this creative meal up in no time, for a Valentine’s Day meal or a even just a romantic evening at home.

A Beauty of a Butter Cream Cake

Aurora whipped up a magically delicious butter cream cake with the help of her fairy godmothers- try out this tasty treat with your best friends! Its so simple to make, and you can add whatever you’d like- my favorite is this recipe for a strawberry and white chocolate butter cream cake
