Thoughts You Have While Traveling for Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Thanksgiving is almost here, and collegiettes all over the country are getting excited for a long weekend full of rest, relaxation, time spent with family and friends and of course, good food! However, traveling during such a busy time always comes with challenges. Here are just a few of them!

  1. I go back home for Thanksgiving tomorrow…. I should really start packing.
  2. Wow, do I really need this much stuff for four days away?
  3. The answer is yes. Yes I do.
  4. Do I have to bring my homework with me?
  5. I need to get to Union Station by noon… so I’ll just leave an hour early.
  6. Cool. I just missed the shuttle.
  7. And the metro is single tracking. Awesome.
  8. And I have to wait 20 minutes for the next train. Great.
  9. Okay. I’m at Union Station. One step closer to home.
  10. Wait. Chipotle.
  11. Should I get Chipotle for lunch?
  12. Or Shake Shack?
  13. WAIT! I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS.
  14. Someone just ran over my foot with their suitcase.
  15. The train track was literally announced 5 seconds ago and people are already sprinting to the track.
  16. People are clustered in clumps around the track door and there is no form of order and I don’t understand how this is a reasonable system.
  17. Why do people keep asking me what train this is? Do I look like a train station employee?
  18. YES! This is Track 5! Could you just look at the sign?
  19. Yes, the line is really this long. Please stop asking me questions!
  20. Okay. I’m finally on the train. Wait, what do you mean there are no seats?
  21. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE OVERBOOKED?
  22. What do you mean I’ll have to sit in the café car???
  23. This is fine. I’m sitting. I’m on the train. Only three more hours, and then I’m home.
  24. Maybe I’ll do some homework…
  25. Nahh, I’ll just watch Netflix.
  26. Anddddddd the wifi isn’t working. Great. Homework it is.
  27. Wow. I’m getting hungry. I can’t wait for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.
  28. And mashed potatoes.
  29. And stuffing.
  30. And cranberry sauce.
  31. AND MASHED POTATOES.
  32. Wait, now I’m even more hungry…
  33. I should have definitely gotten that Chipotle.
  34. This trip feels like it’s dragging on forever and I can’t wait to get home.
  35. And see my own bed.
  36. And my pets.
  37. And my family and friends.
  38. COME ON, TRAIN, HURRY UP.
  39. Okay. We’re pulling into the station.
  40. This trip was awful but it’s so good to see my family again!

No matter where you’re going for the long weekend, get home safe and spend a peaceful Thanksgiving with the ones you love. Have a great Thanksgiving, collegiettes!
