Surviving Finals: A Few Simple Tips

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

So it’s finals time and we’re all super stressed because there’s way too much to do and not enough time to do it. Here are Her Campus American’s top five tips on how you will make it through finals week without totally losing all your marbles.

1) Do a little work each day. As obvious as this sounds, this is one of our biggest tips for finals week. Spacing out your papers and studying as best you can really makes a difference. Make a list of a few tasks to do each day so you don’t forget anything or get too overwhelmed.

2) Sleep! This concept sounds like a crazy idea during finals but getting enough sleep, especially before a test is really important. It’s never beneficial to be yawning during a test. You should be focusing on the test, not staying awake. Even if you’re only getting a few hours of sleep, it’s better than not getting any at all.

3) Plan when to take breaks. What this means is make sure you leave some time in your day to do something relaxing and fun. Have something in your day to look forward to and you will be more efficient about getting your work done. Even if the activity you’re looking forward to is just watching a movie or tv show, those are important too.

4) Pamper yourself a little. This may seem silly but even doing something as simple as getting a manicure can really help you relax. It’s one of our go-to ways to calming down and doing something nice for ourselves during all the craziness of finals. Another idea, go shopping and buy yourself a little present as a congratulations for working hard and completing your tests or papers. It can be as small as a new eyeshadow or a fun book.

5) Stay positive! This is probably the most important tip we have for surviving finals week. You have to remind yourself to stay positive because it makes such a difference. Just remember that once you’re done with everything you can go home and relax! You won’t have to think about school until January when spring semester begins. Enjoy the holidays at home or wherever you go and remember that grades are just letters on a piece of paper, they won’t make or break your life.

Preach.
