Olympic Round-Up of the First Few Days

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are in full swing! It’s only been a few days but already some memorable things have happened that people are talking about. First, of course, was the opening ceremony where there some technical difficulties with the Olympic rings. Five snowflakes came down from the ceiling and were supposed to expand to from the five rings, but unfortunately one of the snowflakes decided it did not want to expand. So there were four rings and a snowflake instead of five rings. Russian President Putin was not impressed. He also barely showed any interest in the ceremony  itself, just staring off looking like this:

Another memorable part of these first few days of the games was seeing American figure skater Ashley Wagner create a new “is not impressed” look after seeing her scores for her first routine. The picture has gone viral as the new meme after American gymnast McKayla Maroney was first snapped with her own “not impressed” look during the 2012 London summer games. This is Wagner’s version of the face:

Finally, a third memorable part of these first few days of the Olympics was seeing American luger Kate Hansen doing a warm up dance to Beyonce before her first race. She wasn’t just bobbing up and down to the music, she was doing a full out routine of sorts while listening to her headphones. Apparently she’s into dance and luge. Cool stuff!
