Janet Yellen: Why She’s The Whole Package

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.
As a country that is in dire need of more women in power, the United States Senate made a step in the right direction when they approved the nomination of the first ever woman as the chair of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors: Janet Yellen.

1.     Prior to her new role as chair, Yellen was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

2.     Under Bill Clinton, she was the chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

3.     She has Bachelors and Ph.D. degrees from Ivy-League Universities: Brown University and Yale University.

4.     She understands Economics.

5.     She was a Professor Emerita at the University of California Berkley’s Haas School of Business.

6.     She has taught at Harvard University and the London School of Economics.

7.     She is originally from Brooklyn, New York; and who doesn’t love Brooklyn after watching Gossip Girl?!?

8.     Yellen is dignified to become one of the world’s most powerful women, joining an elite club including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff.

9.     Her husband George Akerlof is Noble Prize recipient.

10. She was the editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper. How perfect?!

11. And most important of all, she is a woman!
