Her Campus American: What has been your favorite thing to do in DC so far this school year?
Mimi Beckemeier: My favorite thing to do in DC is definitely going to the Politics and Prose bookstore! It is so cute and has some of the best books I’ve ever bought!

HCAU: Who was the first person at AU that made you feel like you belonged?
MB: My friend Griffin. We met on zoom after getting accepted to AU early decision in December, but ever since we got to campus he has been one of my closest friends!

HCAU: What is your ideal lazy Sunday?
MB: Going to the gym, eating snickers ice cream bars and binge-watching Disney+ shows from my childhood!

HCAU: Sprinkles, Georgetown Cupcakes, or Baked and Wired?
MB: I’ve only had Sprinkles, so, Sprinkles 100%!

HCAU: What work do you do as an Intern for the American University Office of Sustainability?
MB: My cohort Cassie and I run the EcoRep program. We come up with service projects for EcoReps to complete, work on campaigns, manage the EcoPledge program and outreach!
HCAU: What do you wish more people knew about sustainability on campus?
MB: I wish more people knew that the waste actually does get separated when taken out, making it especially important to sort your trash in MGC, TDR and residents halls!

HCAU: Are you a coffee or a tea person?
MB: Coffee 100%!!

HCAU: What are you most looking forward to during this semester?
MB: I am most looking forward to the climate marches and surprising my family with trips home!

HCAU: What do you like to do in your free time?
MB: In my free time, I like to read, write articles, code websites, go to the gym and listen to podcasts!

MB: I am currently working on an online portfolio and a website, but until those are complete my Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat all remain up to date with sustainability information! The username for all those accounts is @mimibeckemeier.
