The Best Moments of American Horror Story

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

These deemed “best moments” are probably more accurately called the most epic “oh s*it” moments of all time. The show we all can’t stop watching, the show we freak out over, is finally back! So, in tribute to AHS returning for their 4th season, here are a few recapped moments thus far; we are so ready for the many more to come in this season’s “Freak Show”!

*Spoilers Ahead*

First, let’s start with Murder House Season 1:

1. Violet Dies: Remember how we got to see her body? Her dead body? Yeah. Ew. So basically, Violet (the teen of Murder House) kills herself, but then Tate (her boyfriend that’s not really alive… or is he?) tries to get her to throw up her pills so that she will live. She throws them up ad we all assume she’s alive, all thanks to Tate, but nope. Her loving boyfriend had really been hiding her body in the basement.

2. Tate’s Reveal- Speaking of Tate, really quickly we being to realize that he has some major life issues that need to be solved-  can you have real life issues if you’re not actually alive? Perhaps the most socking reveal is that after trying to piece together Tate’s entire history, we are hit with the fact that he was a school shooter. Insensitive on the director’s part maybe, but the fact that Tate now has to deal with the ghosts of his victims humanizes Tate’s character while totally freaking us out- remember the student with the blown off jaw? Horrible.

3. Infantata- What is it? Still not too sure, but basically the first sight of this creature drew us all in. Later we learn that it was a kind of hybrid stitched recreation of the original Murder House owner’s son, but let’s be real, all we needed to see was something that creepy and we were hooked.

4. Vivien Is Pregnant- Seriously though after this, what else could have possibly happened. Well obviously more, but, this was a total OMG moment. Last thing we saw was her having sex with someone in some freaky latex suit we KNEW wasn’t her husband. And considering her home is clad with spirits, ghosts, freaky things living in the attic, obviously that child wasn’t going to be anything good.

Then, in Asylum Season 2:

5. A killer… Santa? Ian McShane joined the cast of Asylum as a crafty serial killer and also a Santa impersonator.  Basically, when he wasn’t totally destroying any notion we ever had of a happy jolly Santa by tying up families, and raping, he was saying the most ridiculous unquotable lines ever. Point for you, insane Santa; your tag lines are hilarious.

6. Dr. Arden’s Experiments-  Psycho Nazi doctor terrorizing Briarcliff? Sounds about right. We all knew from the beginning that something sick was going on with that guy, but not until we see what he does to Shelly do our worst nightmares come true. We have to watch (or close our eyes and pretend not to peak) when he amputates her legs so she can’t escape, and then he mutates her into this zombie like creature. He has a serious issue clearly.. oh yeah and then he cremates himself… What?

7. Anne Frank- Probably the coolest thing in this entire season is when we are introduced to the new patient claiming she is Anne Frank, and basically puts Dr. Arden on blast for being who he truly is (see #6 if you skipped it). To take the heat off himself, Arden finds a way to send Anne back to her husband and she forgets about the whole thing. Question is, was she  really Anne Frank or was she truly insane?

8. Dance Break- Taking a break from all the scary, horrible, freaky stuff that is AHS, there was that incredible dance number. Ugh, if you don’t remember it, go back and watch it. Because it will definitely make you happy. Thanks Sister Jude!

9. Adam Levine/ Leo Cameo- WHAT IS HAPPENING. Mr. Maroon 5 makes an appearance on the show, and in all his glory, loses a limb. How could they do this?! Mind = Blown.

10. Lana Kills Her Own Son-  Lana Winters makes this season everything that it is. Everything leads up to the final confrontation between herself and her son with Bloody Face- yeah, the son she tried to abort but couldn’t. After she gives her interesting interview (sounds like she’s ready for a E- News True Hollywood Story), her son is lurking around and we just KNOW things won’t end well for her. But wait. Plot twist, she decides to do what she couldn’t do years ago and ends his suffering along with her own.

And who could forget Season 3, Coven:

11. Severed Head- Probably the bloodiest season yet, Coven proves to be full of crazy surprises, one of which being Kathy Bate’s  (Delphine) lives the majority of the season as a severed head. From singing to watching TV, she does it all- except for having a real body. As weird as it sounds, the relief provided from this act seemed to lighten the mood of the dark series as they dance around so many hard to watch themes.

12.  We Owe Myrtle Everything-  This red-headed witch was crazy, but probably the coolest of them all. Many may forget, but while telling Zoe about her ex- boyfriend marrying Diane von Furstenberg she mentions that without his love Ms. DVF would have never been inspired to create the “wrap dress”.  And of course, she claims that without her assistance (aka breaking it off with her boy-toy) the dress would have never been invented. Ugh we love you Myrtle.

13. Frenimies Fiona and Marie – Remember Axeman? With his assistance, badass Fiona and Marie kill dozens of witch hunters; and their celebration makes us want to believe so badly that they are now powerhouse BFFs.  But, alas, AHS is always  throwing us for a turn, and Delphine tries to kill Marie (even though she is immortal), and then evil Spalding suggests  that Delphine buries Marie. Too much happens, and basically, friends don’t stay friends (or should I say momentary friends.)

14. Never Forget Queenie-  Lovable, and badass, Queenie is full of one-liners that make us totally love her.  Especially when Delphine is finally reattached to her body,  Queenie  gets sassy and flaunts her skills saying  “If I had done you, you wouldn’t look like you’ve been jammed through a blender”. You go girl! Not only is she super skilled and powerful, but she somehow survived being shot with a silver bullet, leaving us all to believe that maybe, just maybe, Queenie is the next Supreme.

With all of these shocking moments, and now having read this full recap, what could possibly happen this season? Make sure you tune in each Wednesday at 10pm on FX to find out what new thrills await us in Season 4, Freak Show.
