A Guys Simple Guide on What to Get Your Girl for Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Albany chapter.

Every year countless guys face the struggle of figuring out Valentine’s Day. It shouldn’t be so difficult, considering the endless jewelry adverts the retail industry throws in your face; and yet it is. Not everyone is ballin’ and maybe your girl doesn’t like flashy jewelry, I seriously doubt it, but if so then finding the right gift isn’t easy. How about your plans for the day? If you don’t have anything planned then you’re slipping. There is so much for couples to do on Valentine’s Day! Dinner and a movie are traditional; there is nothing wrong with that especially if you haven’t been dating long. But why not try something new and really romance her? For all the guys who find this holiday to be a challenge, here are a few tips on what to get your girl and how to spend the day.

Flowers and Chocolates!

Yay! Not really. I’m personally not a fan of flowers because I don’t always get the kind I like. Not every girl likes roses! Some girls like sunflowers, lilies or orchids. There are so many ways you could do it. Of course they aren’t always in season, so if she has a favorite kind you may have to look hard and spend some extra cash. If you don’t know her favorite kind, ask a friend to find out for you or you could ask her yourself. I promise she’ll be a lot happier with her favorite blue orchids rather than red roses which she may not like.

Although traditional, you should definitely get her chocolates too. Maybe not an assorted box, she may feel like she’s playing Russian roulette, and what if she has food allergies? Nothing will ruin this romantic gesture quite like having to rush her to the hospital because the chocolate you gave her had peanut butter in it. Try and find out what her favorite chocolates are instead. Lindt Lindor truffles are delicious! A bag of milk, white and dark chocolates will make any girl happy.

Don’t Break the Bank

When you’re trying to think of what to do for the day, keep in mind you don’t have to spend a ton of money. Restaurants often do “2 for 1” specials or have a special deal for Valentine’s Day. Search the newspaper for coupons. Drive-in movies are a great alternative to going to a theater; it’s fun and more private, not to mention cheaper. You only pay for the vehicle. Jewelry stores also do Valentines deals. Macy’s has a famous One Day sale on the weekends and the deals are great! Alex and Ani is a popular new jewelery store and their prices are way lower than more expensive brands like Pandora.

Get creative! It is adorable when a guy makes something for a girl. We love it! It shows that you really thought about her and wanted her to have something unique. Even if you aren’t a creative person, she’ll admire the effort and the sentiment behind it. Unless it’s complete trash, then maybe buy a gift instead.

Remember Valentine’s Day is about spending time with that one special person, so make it memorable!
