Finals Are Coming Up, But What About Christmas Shopping?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Albany chapter.

Yup, it’s that time of the semester guys. Don’t worry, it’s almost over. We have about two weeks left of school, and then we’ll be done and ready for winter break.

On top of that, Christmas is coming up and I know you guys are going to wait until the last minute to go Christmas Shopping. It’s okay though, because I’m here to help you figure out how to juggle both the shopping and the studying.

You have to start by getting rid of denial. Yes, you have to study a lot for finals, and yes you don’t have money to buy your family and friends gifts, but just let that set in and get over it. Embrace the struggle.

When it comes to finals, I do three things, study, sleep, and have fun. You need all three to survive finals and there is really no other way.

  1. Studying is obviously something you need to do, but what’s important is the way you do it. DO NOT CRAM and I repeat, DO NOT CRAM. It will stress you out way more than you need, and you’ll be exhausted. Something to avoid is studying in your room. There are way too many distractions like television, computers and your comfy bed. Go out to the library and sit down with a friend from the class you’re studying for. I’ve come to realize I am a lot more productive in the library.
  2. You need to sleep so you can be able to perform at your full potential. Sleep also helps with stress. Sleep however can also hinder you if you take too many naps. Everyone in college loves naps (I know I do) but you’re not productive when you’re taking 4 hour naps every day and then staying up until 4 am.
  3. And of course, you need to have fun. Go out maybe two or three times in the coming weeks to de-stress. Watch a movie or go bowling. Something to take your mind off of finals, even if it is just for a short time.

Now for Christmas gifts, I go by one thing, don’t spend a whole bunch of money. It is just that simple. You can actually get great gifts for way cheaper. I have actually finished all of my Christmas shopping, and I spent under $100 for about 10 people. There are so many websites and stores that are having Christmas sales.

Online

  1. Macy’s- They are offering up to 30% if you use the promo code: FRIEND
  2. Bed Bath and Beyond- They are still doing cyber week
  3. Target- Up to 20% off on Christmas gifts for children and adults

In Store

  1. Five Below- Everything in that store is $5 or less, that’s all I have to say
  2. Old Navy- Great for cheap hat and glove sets and their clearance section has some gems
  3. Bath and Body Works- Buy three and get two free, perfumes, lotions etc.
  4. Victoria Secret- Underwear 8 for $30

There are so many more options, but these are the ones I used to get all my friends and family gifts. Just do the research and you’ll end up spending way less than you expected. Not to mention, I did this in one day, so it won’t interfere with my finals and studying. Good Luck!
