January 28th started just as any other school day. By 12:45 p.m. however, it was snowing! When I left my American Literature class, I saw that Agnes Scott turned into a winter paradise. Being a Southern girl, I have only seen snow a few times in the 19 years I have lived in Georgia. Even though I saw several white flakes earlier, I was still clueless as to what was going to happen. Once I saw that it was actually snowing, I was ecstatic.
Snow days are one of my greatest stress relievers. It is easy to forget your worries of work and school in order to relax because everything has been postponed. Some people will roll their eyes and scoff, “Its just snow. Its not a big deal.” I have discovered that snow is a rare thing for people to see unless they live in a mountain area, such as the Appalachians. Therefore, it is natrual for people to get excited about something that does not happen frequently.
When our school was shut down and crowds of people were rushing outside to take pictures of the snow and themselves. Some people were throwing snowballs. People rolled around in the snow, while others just stopped admire its beauty. My friends and I made snowmans and snowangels. Of course we still studied for our classes, because falling behind is not an option. If only I could have found me some hot chocolate, then my day would have been complete.
Hey, you never know when or where snow storms could happen! Here are a few tips to make it through future snow days:
1. Make sure you pile up snacks and drinks in your room. Remember to grab staples such as soups, fruits, and veggies. (Besides the necessary packages of candy and cookie dough, of course!)
2. Rent an array of movie genres. This is easy and cheap entertainment when you and friends are stuck in your dorms.
3. Find/purchase some extra blankets and flashlights because you never know if the power might cut out or not!
4. STAY WARM!!!
