Q: What’s your year and major?

A: I’m a junior year Psych major and Theater Acting minor. I love being able to study both of my passions every day!

Q: What activities are you involved in school and outside school?

A: During the school year, I’m an Admissions Ambassador to pay for my half-apps at Applebee’s addiction. But during the summers, I work as an Elderly Assistant in my hometown in California. This summer, I will be interning an assistant to the on-staff clinical psychologist at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center. I’m a member of Christian Fellowship and a competitive rider and Public Relations eboard member for Adelphi University’s Equestrian Team (Instagram: @auequestrian). I’m also a member of and Director of Alumni Relations for Delta Gamma Fraternity – Omicron chapter at Adelphi. Something I’m excited for next year is to be working under a faculty member of the Derner Institute of Psychological Studies, conducting research through the Emerging Scholars Program and presenting it at Research Day!

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Singing and playing music have been a huge part of my life since I could speak. I’ve also been riding horses for 15 years. I feel such a connection to these beautiful and graceful creatures. Other hobbies of mine include running a travel blog (travellersitch.wordpress.com) and shopping until my bank account cries.

FUN Fact: Even though I look white, I’m actually a proud Puerto Rican, and Spanish is my first language. ¡Boricua por siempre!

Q: What do you love about Adelphi?

A: Something I love about Adelphi is the way I can walk around campus and meet new people every single day, while still seeing familiar faces all around.

Q: What do you wish to do when you graduate? (What are your goals)

A: I hope to be accepted into a graduate program for Clinical Psychology after I graduate. I plan on earning a PhD and becoming a practicing clinical psychologist and a professor at a university. I want share the knowledge and passion I have for psych with future college students.

Q: Do you have any role models?

A: It’s kinda scary because my mom and I have lead similar lives. She basically went through everything I go through when she was my age. I look up to her because she’s so strong and independent. She is the perfect example of the woman who can have it all, and that’s what I hope to achieve someday.

FUN Fact: I’ve scuba dived with sharks and large jellyfish.

Q: What’s your favorite place at Adelphi?

A: The PAC is my favorite place at Adelphi. Not only is it the perfect place to belt out Rent at any moment, but everyone there are always accepting and loving and just have all-around good vibes.

Q: What advice would you give to incoming freshman?

A: Get involved! Find something you’re passionate about and do something about it. And if you don’t know what that is, try everything you can until you do.

Q: What is your favorite memory at Adelphi?

A: My freshman year, my friends and I were walking outside of the UC, and a bunny crossed in front of us. All of a sudden, 2 of the guys I was hanging out with ran after the bunny. They followed it under trees and around bushes, yelling “I just wanna love you!” It’s still a running joke in my friend group.

FUN Fact: I’m really good at randomly meeting celebrities.

Q: What do you think is most important in order to have a great college experience?

A: I think it’s important to be open to life. There are going to be moments where you think “what am I doing with my life?”, especially when you get thrown a huge curveball. Instead of trying to control every aspect of your life (like I ALWAYS do), it’s important to step back and let life take its course.

Q: What do you look for in a partner?

A: I look for a loving heart heart in a partner. Also, I need someone who can make me laugh and not judge me too hard when I try to be funny with bad jokes and puns.

Q: What would be the perfect date?

A: The perfect date for me would be going out to dinner and then taking a long stroll somewhere new, talking about life and losing ourselves in time. Ps: I’ve always wanted to be kissed passionately in heavy rain, like in sappy movies and novellas.

Q: Single or taken?

A: Newly single.

Hi I'm Liz!! I'm currently a sophomore at Adelphi University and I study communications. I strive to become a journalist or a news reporter someday. Besides being a contributor for HerCampus and studying communications, I have a passion for martial arts and criminal justice. I also love babysitting so I obviously love kids and something I may also do is become a teacher. One fun fact about me is that  I have been studying Ju Jitsu for the past 12 or 13 years and I am currently a second degree brown belt.
