Rosbel Franklin ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

Q: What’s your year and major?

A: I am a junior theatre major. Shout out to the theatre class of super’17!!

Q: What activities are you involved in school and outside school?

A: In school I started an Unofficial wiffle-ball club which takes place in the spring. Whomever is interested, please let me know….Outside of school, activity wise, I usually visit friends in the neighboring towns, kick back, and maybe watch a flick. I’m also on the L&A Babysitting Team.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I enjoy skiing and snowboarding during the winter season, rip sticking across campus in the spring, bike riding in the summer and hiking in the Fall. I’m also a huge snapchat junky. Add me- rozta

FUN FACT: When I was 6 I took tap dancing lessons at the HSA (Harlem School of the Arts) but I eventually quit because I was always falling; my parents couldn’t find a pair of tap shoes in my size. A year later I auditioned for The Black Nativity at HSA and received a roll as an Angel (The Angels didn’t wear shoes)

Q:  What do you love about Adelphi?

A: Wow, there are so many things to love about Adelphi… but if I had to pin point one thing, it would have to be the productions put up at the Performing Arts Center. This University is sitting on a goldmine of talent; tackling heavy subject productions like, “Angels in America”written  by Tony Kushner, directed by Maggie Lally this past fall semester.

Q: What do you wish to do when you graduate? (What are your goals)

A: When I graduate I plan to live in an apartment in Brooklyn with a few other Graduating acting students. At the time i’ll be balancing two or three part time “odd” jobs, while struggling to  find work as an actor. Eventually after years of failure, i’ll  land a spot in the cast of SNL, drop one of my part time jobs and watch my professional life as an actor take off.

Q: Do you have any role models?

A: Two of my biggest role models would have to be Jim Carrey and Paul Newman. Because one is a comic phenomenon while the other is a master at naturalistic theatre. If there are two actors I study the most, it would be those two.

FUN Fact: In the summers I volunteer at, Amerikids Camp,  a camp for kids living with the challenges of HIV/Aids and Sickle cell Anemia.

Q: What’s your favorite place at Adelphi?

A: My favorite place at Adelphi is the recreation center. I like to swim at night in the lap pool, for exercise.Q: What advice would you give to incoming freshman?

A: Be prepared! Do whatever it is you can to be two weeks ahead of schedule if possible. Plan out your weeks and don’t be afraid to reach out to your professors. They’re here to help you succeed.Q: What is your favorite memory at Adelphi?A: My favorite memory at Adelphi actually took place during orientation. It was the first time I stepped foot on the Olmsted stage for the Talent show and looked out into the crowd of rowdy students. And also remembering my first encounters with the friends I still have today. Those are my fondest memories.

Q: What do you think is most important in order to have a great college experience?

A: If you really want to have a great college experience, you have to break out of your shell. Strike a conversation with a stranger because that stranger might  one day become your companion. Go on an adventure with friends into the city or out to the shore. Develop a good study habit so that you can take full advantage of the opportunities given here! College only last so long, so live in the moments, this is your time!

FUN Fact: Lastly ,my celebrity crush is Ariana Grande.

Hi I'm Liz!! I'm currently a sophomore at Adelphi University and I study communications. I strive to become a journalist or a news reporter someday. Besides being a contributor for HerCampus and studying communications, I have a passion for martial arts and criminal justice. I also love babysitting so I obviously love kids and something I may also do is become a teacher. One fun fact about me is that  I have been studying Ju Jitsu for the past 12 or 13 years and I am currently a second degree brown belt.
