Campus Celebrity – Julianna !

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

Our campus celebrity this week is resident Julianna Claase. Serving as the President of The Student Government Association, she is an important part of Adelphi. She holds other titles and is very active on campus. She earns the celebrity status because of her passion to inspire others and change the world.

Major: Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. I’m also a student in the Levermore Global Scholars Program.

Hometown: Farmingdale, New York (There aren’t any farms though- I wish)

Year: Senior

Q & A

Who or what inspires you and why?

J: Seeing other people bare their souls and be brave enough to share a vulnerable part of themselves. The power that stories have is incredible and it immediately allows someone else to open up and do the same. It is so inspiring.

What are your goals for the future?

J: My goals are a bit wide-spread, as I plan to change a bit of the world, but I hope to truly lead a fulfilling life and to help others feel and do the same. One of my passions is pairing my creativity with activism, and I’ve found ways to do that already. If I could continue to grow and impact others in that realm as well as others, I’d be happy. I also plan on traveling, a lot.

What are you apart of on campus?

J: I am currently serving as the President of the Student Government Association, a Resident Assistant in New Hall B, a local chapter leader of I Am That Girl, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society and member of C.A.L.I.B.E.R.

If you could switch places with a professor for day who would you want to be and why?

J: Probably either Professor Thornburg or Professor Maloney. They are two of the most profound, intelligent and wonderful people I have met during my time at Adelphi and studying abroad with Adelphi. They’ve taught me so much about my studies, my passions and life.

If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you would do?

J: Assess how I can split it up so that I can give a percentage to my parents/family, a percentage to donate it to some of my most favorite/deserving causes, and have a bit left to travel.

If your parent(s) could describe you in three words what would they be?

J: Giving, graceful (I beg to differ), humorous.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

J: Stop saying “I can’t wait for/to __________.” You can wait. You have to wait, anyway. Take a look at time in a different way and use your days to celebrate smaller victories.

Specifically in your major?

J: Within my major, graphic design, I’d say don’t limit yourself. Graphic design is a tool that can be used for anything. You’re not set for a career at a design firm or at the magazine you’ve been reading for 10 years. I thought those were my options- or at least what I wanted- and now I’m in a completely different place.

Do you have a favorite on campus memory or event?

J: That is such a difficult question after spending the past 3 (almost 4) years of my life here. One of my most significant memories happened this September- getting the opportunity to speak at the Matriculation Ceremony. It was such a huge feat for me to speak in front of that many people, and to feel so comfortable. It was also so heart-warming to get to share a piece of myself with the incoming freshmen and the entire Adelphi community. I felt such love and support that day.

Interesting Facts!

Her hobbies include music, writing, and art.

“They’ve always been a strong outlet for me alongside traveling & learning about different cultures,” says Claase “Activism is also a huge part of my life. Sometimes, I like to bake, too.”

Her favorite comfort foods are mostly fall related.

“I immediately thought of apple crisp. I am a huge fan of fall and fall foods,” she says “so most definitely apple pie/crisp, soups, grilled cheese. Yum.”

 Looks delicious!
