I used to say that I would never join a sorority. I swore that it wasn’t for me. I told everyone I knew that I would never do it.

I reached out to Tri Delta at Adelphi University on a whim during the fall of my junior year. I honestly never thought I would follow through with it. I met with a few of the girls from the group so they could get to know me. I really enjoyed meeting with them so I decided to meet with a bigger group of them.

After going to dinner with the girls a few times they offered me a bid to join the sorority. I didn’t expect them to offer me a bid, and I never expected them to actually like me either.

I accepted the bid and started the process of becoming a sorority sister. I was so happy to be joining my sorority because I felt like I belonged there. It was an amazing feeling to fit in with new people.

Within a month I had met everyone and already began making amazing new friends. This was exactly what I needed at the time. I needed to have that sisterhood where I felt like I had a support system and that I belonged.

I was having a rough time when I joined and everyone was there to support me and help me through.

The day I was initiated was one of the happiest days because I felt like I was going home. Ever since it has just been a wonderful feeling to have all of this support and sisterhood around me. When I go somewhere and see one of my sisters I always feel included and special.

Before this, I had not felt like I could be supported as my authentic self. I always felt like I had to change myself or try really hard to earn my place. But when I found my sorority, I didn’t have to do any of that. I was fully accepted exactly the way I was and that was a heartwarming experience.

For anyone who might be questioning going Greek, just give it a try. You never know what might happen and you might find your forever home and forever friends. But you’ll never know until you try.
