The Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino Is Starbucks’s New Drink For People Who Are Sick of Neon Colors

Starbucks has come up with yet another specialty drink, according to Refinery29. In the past few weeks, Starbucks has released the Unicorn Frappuccino, a “sweet pink powder, mango syrup and sour blue drizzle” confection and the Dragon Frappuccino, which is a “green tea [frappucino] with vanilla bean powder and berry swirl.” These drinks come in eye-popping neon colors and unusual flavor combinations, making them great for Instagram, but less great for getting your caffeine fix or, you know, enjoying what you’re drinking.

The Midnight Mint Mocha (which is honestly hard to say all at once) is a little different. Starbucks describes the drink as a “beautiful layered beverage starts with scoops of extra-dark cocoa blended with coffee, milk and ice, infused with cooling mint sugar crystals and cut with a layer of whipped cream.” And they didn’t forget the finishing touch, as the drink “is then topped with more whipped cream and a dusting of dark cocoa.”

“We were inspired by thoughts of dark starry nights, looking up at the sky with a cool summer breeze,” says a Starbucks beverage development team member. Starbucks knows it’s only a matter of time before moody drinks dominate the Instagram Explore page, I guess.

The new frappucino is available in select stores starting Tuesday, May 2, along with the returning S’mores Frappuccino. Now we just have to decide on the best filter to highlight all that dark, chocolatey goodness.
