A fifth Vanderbilt football player, 21-year old Chris Boyd, has been indicted for the rape of an unconscious girl on campus. Chris Boyd is said to have offered a fellow team player advice on how to cover up the crime, according to Metro Nashville Police. This led to him being charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact; bond has been set at $25,000.
The police have said that they expect him to surrender and that he is aware of the indictment.
Two California men also were indicted Friday. Nineteen-year-old Miles Finley and 20-year-old Joseph Quinzio are charged with felony tampering with evidence. They were all high school teammates, and friends with Brandon Vandenburg – one of the four former Vanderbilt stars indicted with multiple counts of rape.
Finley attempted to flee when he saw deputies outside his house; never a good idea, collegiettes! His bond has been set at $150,000 and he is now in custody. Those who answered the telephones at the homes of Finley and Quinzio declined comment Friday.
“Today’s indictment reflects the hundreds of law enforcement hours that have gone into this case thus far, and the absolute seriousness of this entire matter,” Chief Steve Anderson said in a statement. “We are looking at all persons who may have been involved in this event, before, during and after the fact. Additional charges cannot be ruled out.”
Brandon Vandenburg, 20, of Indio, Calif.; Cory Batey, 19, of Nashville; Brandon Banks, 19, of Brandywine, Md.; and Jaborian McKenzie, 19, of Woodville, Miss., were each charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery on Aug. 9.
These four former college football players are charged with raping an unconscious 21-year old girl in Vanderbilt’s Gillette House dorm on June 23rd. They have been dismissed from the team and also banned from campus, during a six week investigation.
“All of these allegations, including those brought today, are deeply troubling, and we take them very seriously,” Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Beth Fortune said in a statement. Importantly, her statement also notes that none of the players have been found guilty and that at this stage they have only been indicted. She also says that Vanderbilt continues to cooperate closely with the district attorney’s office and the police.
