Name: Zach Poliacoff
School/Year: UNC/Chapell Hill/Sophomore
Age: 19
Hometown: Miami, FL
Major:  Biology (pre-med)
Minors: Chemistry and Archaeology

Motto: If you can’t find a solution to a problem, you can at least find humor in it. It’s better to laugh at something that’s out of your control than worry about it.
Favorite study spot: The Undergraduate Library
Weird fact: I wear speedos under my swimsuit. Actually two.
Relationship Status: Single

This week’s campus cutie is a Miami-bred, pre-med sophomore. His lofty goals include becoming a space doctor and getting more followers on Twitter. This humorous cutie has his hands full with his schoolwork but in his free time is actively involved around campus and loves to read. He’s intelligent, funny and philanthropic.

Her Campus: Your majors/minors sound pretty intense. Any specific reason you chose to follow the pre-med path?
Zach Poliacoff: I like the precision of harder sciences. You know what you know and you know how you know it. You know? I see archaeology as applied history. Maybe one day I will even get to dig something.

HC: What do you hope to do after college?
ZP: Hopefully I’ll be going to medical school and end up being a pathologist or geneticist. I would love to work for the WHO or become an astronaut. What I really want to do is become a space doctor.

HC: Besides hitting the books at the UL, what else are you involved with around campus?
ZP: I volunteer with disability services, I’m a lab assistant in the biophysics lab and a member of ATO. I also am a part of the Carolina Union Activities Board as well as FIRMC, an organization that provides medical care to underprivileged children.

HC: Sounds like you have your hands full. What do you like to do in your free time, if you have any?
ZP: I like to read, exercise and hang out with friends when I’m not studying.

HC: Do you have any pets?
ZP: I’ve actually never had any pets. Well, do hermit crabs count? They died really fast, though. They’re not supposed to live long, though, right? Is two months long? For a butterfly that’s forever, but if a dog only lived two months, that’s embarrassing. Also, I’m a cat person. They’re cuter than dogs.

HC: When was your first kiss?
ZP: I was in the sixth grade. It was while watching Madagascar.

HC: Sounds romantic. What do you look for in a girl?
ZP: Someone I can have a good conversation with and who is funny and sarcastic. I like smart, athletic and older girls.

HC: Any deal breakers?
ZP: I don’t like a sloppy drunk, that’s a huge turnoff. I also don’t like girls who are all about text abbreviations and PDA. I would never be all over a girl in public.

HC: What’s been your longest relationship?
ZP: Two months. I get bored a bit easily.

HC: What’s your ideal date?
ZP: A nice dinner, but with good conversation … and alcohol. My best date was mini golfing with a girl and then we had a picnic at a park under a tree that was just blooming. Cliché, I know. But it was still nice.

HC: When you’re not taking dates on picnics, what’s the best restaurant to take someone in Chapel Hill?
ZP: Vespa. They give you a lot of food; quantity is important. Plus, their bread is absolutely delicious.

HC: Do you have any celebrity crushes?
ZP: Zooey Deschanel. Her voice is magical — that’s one reason.

HC: What’s been your biggest achievement in the past year?
ZP: I recently hit the big 1,000 mark in tagged Facebook photos. That was a big day.

HC: Sounds important. What about your biggest regret?
ZP: The other night when we were at [B]ski’s and I didn’t order anything. I regret that. I was starving the next morning.

HC: Do you have any big fears?
ZP: Yes, elevators. I never get on one if I can help it. When I was a freshman, I got stuck in the elevator in Morrison at 3:00 a.m. for two hours. We sat on the floor waiting for the firefighters, all nine of us. My fear was cemented at that instant. I especially never get on one alone. That way, I have someone to talk to if I get stuck.

HC: That does sound pretty tragic. Any random fun facts our Her Campus readers should know?
ZP: I have broken all my limbs. For example, in third grade I had just seen Cirque Du Soleil and decided that in P.E. free time I should imitate one of the acts. I got on an exercise ball to try to walk on it like they do. I lasted three seconds.

Name: Alex May
Year: William & Mary ’14
Major: Psychology and Pre-Med
Hometown: Woodbine, MD
Relationship Status: Taken, sorry ladies!

What is he involved in on Campus?
Sigma Chi Fraternity
Orientation Aide 2012 – 2013
Tribe Rugby

What are his interests?
Being a campus cutie!!!
spending time with friends and family
anything Sylvester Stallone related
outdoor activities
working out
music

Why is he worthy of being a Campus Cutie?
“Alex is a great candidate for campus cutie because of how involved he is on campus. He’s well known and has a great personality. He is funny, charismatic and extremely intelligent. Additionally, he is Greek (as in the nationality not the affiliation with a letter organization) which adds a little exoticness and spice.” -Anonymous

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but Taylor MacLeod seems to have it all.  In his first year at Boston College, he’s already declared a double major (medicine AND music), joined an a cappella group, performed in a musical, and participated in other on-campus organizations.  As if that weren’t enough, this well-rounded cutie has a shining personality to match. And if you can believe it, he actually prefers Mac to Lower.

Name: Taylor MacLeod
School/Year: Boston College ’15
Hometown: I’m from Norfolk, MA.  It’s like five minutes from where the Patriots play.  I can hear concerts from my backyard.
Majors: Biology and Music double major (Pre-med concentration)

BC Life:
Activities/Clubs: I was involved in GLC, I’m involved in the Acoustics, I was just in Spring Awakening (so the theatre department), and I’m involved in Elections Committee.
Best Class: Last semester, I took Molecules and Cells with Professor Taghian, and she’s absolutely amazing.  I already feel like she’s my mentor.  Even though I don’t have her anymore, I still see her weekly.  She’s always willing to help students, even if they’re not her current students—I love the class!
Worst Class: The class I’m in now, Ecology and Evolution.  The teacher is not the best (I won’t say a name). It’s not the most interesting topic.  I don’t care about plants—no offense.  I care about the environment, but not plants.
Bapst or O’Neill: O’Neill.  Fifth floor O’Neill.  I always go to the study rooms.  Bapst is too pretty for me.
Favorite Place to Eat: I’m a big fan of Mac.  I just really like it!  Lower’s okay, but it doesn’t have the stuff I like to eat.  I’m lactose intolerant, and a lot of the stuff they have in Lower has cheese in it (almost all of the hot foods have cheese).
Favorite BC Sport: Football.  My mom went to BC, so I kinda grew up going to all the BC football games.  Even though we didn’t do so hot this year, I still love going to the games.  It’s like a childhood thing.
Where can we find you on a typical day on campus?  This is going to sound nerdy, but the library.  I’m in the library a LOT.  Because of my classes and my activities, I don’t have a lot of extra time.  I gotta stay focused on my work, so you’ll find me in O’Neill, or laying outside on Upper doing work.

Favorites:
Movie:  Well, I just saw The Hunger Games last night, so that’s on the top of my list.  Other than that, I think Independence Day.
Food:  I really like Pop tarts.  It’s very addictive!  That’s more like a snack food.  In terms of substantial food, I really like salmon.  Growing up, I have a house on the Cape, so all summer we just eat seafood.
TV Show:  “Survivor.”  I’ve watched every single season.  Ever since I’ve watched it, I’ve wanted to audition for it.  I’m auditioning for it in the fall!
Actress:  Sutton Foster.  She’s fabulous, the “triple threat.”
Actor:  Leonardo DiCaprio.  He’s like the go-to guy.
Broadway Musical:  Next to Normal.  I just saw it on Sunday!

Fun Facts:
Nicknames: People call me “Tay Bay Bay.”  They also call me “Tay,” nothing too crazy.
If you could be any cartoon character, who would it be?  I really like Tommy from the Rugrats.  He was such a smart kid!
Most Embarrassing Moment:  So I’m a twin (she doesn’t go here).  We used to work together at this summer camp.  The way the camp was set up, there was a hill.  At the bottom of the hill was the tent where everyone stayed, and we were counselors there.  So my sister was at the bottom of the hill and everyone was out in the field.  My sister and I are rough with each other—we wrestle, we fight—so I decided I was going to run down and tackle her.  I run to the bottom of the hill and tackle her, and everyone’s faces are kind of like…oh my God, I can’t believe he just did that.  I was like, what?  I do this sort of thing all the time!  I get up…it’s not my sister.  I tackled this random girl.  Good thing I didn’t tackle her really hard!  Everyone in the camp was just looking at me.  This was freshman year of high school.  It’s still my most embarrassing moment to this day.
Special Talents: Besides singing, apparently—my doctor told me this—I’m one of 3% of people who can stick my tongue to my tongue.  (He demonstrates.)
Dream Job:  I want to be an oncologist.  I plan on going to med school, but I can still do research.  I want to do cancer treatment and research.
What are you looking forward to most for the rest of the semester?  The downtime.  I’m really excited to catch up with my friends and enjoy the beautiful weather.  I only get to be with the seniors in the Acoustics for a couple more months, and I’ve already gotten so close to them.
Any fun plans for the summer?  I’m getting my EMT certificate!

Love Life:
Dating Status:  I’m in relationship.  He lives in St. Louis—it’s a long distance relationship.  We didn’t start dating until February, though we’ve known each other for five years.
What do you look for in a relationship? I haven’t been in a relationship since freshman year of high school, because I’m very picky.  The main thing is they need to be a friend before they can be a significant other.  If I’m with them, I want to be able to go outside and shoot hoops, hang out, laugh, but also have that connection.  I think communication is really important.  I see so many relationships where people will hide what they’re feeling because they don’t want to get into an altercation, but that just makes everything so much worse.
Ideal date: I like really cliché things, so preferably roses and like, a suit or something!  That’s the dream, the movie sort of thing.  But I don’t know, just like going mini-golfing or star-gazing, having a picnic.  I’m not into the whole big fancy dinner thing—very simple, very cliché.
Any Deal Breakers?  Someone who doesn’t respect my morals.  I was raised Catholic, so I have specific morals about certain things.  Someone who in any sense would try to push me to do something I’m not comfortable with is inconsiderate.  And then I really don’t like cockiness.  There’s a difference between confidence and cockiness.
Deal Maker? A good smile, good eyes.  A fun personality, someone who gets along with my friends.  My best friend and I have this thing where (mostly with her, because I haven’t been on the scene), whenever she gets a new boyfriend, I always grill him.  I like to see if my friends will get along with the person or not!

It’s been said that girls only go for bad boys. Our Campus Cutie this week is a prime example of why girls should leave that lifestyle behind and give a good guy a chance. Christian Bennett is genuine and sweet but not afraid to bust out some dance moves in front of a group of strangers. He is adventurous and what some may call an adrenaline junkie but he is also a guy that will always be there with a hug and excellent advice for any situation.

Name: Christian Bennett
School/Year: UNC Chapel Hill/Sophomore
Hometown: Wilmington, NC
Major: Biology, Premed

Favorite Study Spot: UL Big Tables

Celebrity Crush: Alana Blanchard

Biggest Turn Offs: Cigarettes and Sloppiness

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Chocolate Fudge Brownie from Ben and Jerry’s

Fun Fact: I’m colorblind!

Favorite Musician/Band: Drake and Lupe

Favorite Movie: Fight Club

What are some of your hobbies? I love to surf back at home whenever I can. In the winter, I’ll try and take as many snowboarding trips as possible, too. I’m game for most adrenaline rushes. If I need a breather, I love hanging out with my friends on a nice day in the quad or really anywhere. Fortunately, most of my friends are just as crazy as I am, so they’re right there next to me skating down the hill to the Dean Dome.

What is your dream first date? Either she comes over to my house or I go over to hers and we cook dinner and just hang out for a bit. I love to make something out of nothing and there is always something special about a home cooked meal. Also, it always tastes better when you make it with a cute girl…I wonder why?

What do you look for in a girl? I’m a huge fan of confidence, eyes, and inner beauty. She’s gotta have a great personality and at least some wit to her. A huge bonus point would be if she’s willing to share the experiences I have, but if not, I’d be perfectly fine if she’s there with a band-aid if I fall.

What do you want to do after graduation? I want to become a doctor! I’ve always loved helping people, ever since I was a wee little one. I love looking at problems and figuring out what to do with them. I also love the biology behind the human body, from the micro level, full of cells and other nerdy stuff, all the way to the macro level, looking at mob mentalities and other social relations.

What’s your favorite memory at Carolina so far? Every day.

What’s your favorite quote or motto? “Nothing in this world that is worth having comes easy.”
-Dr. Bob Kelso

Name: Adil Faqih
School/Year: Vanderbilt University ’13
Hometown: I hail from the great city of Gahanna, OH.  I usually say Columbus for people not from Ohio though.
Major: I am a Biomedical Engineering major and I am pre-med.  Livin’ the life.
Relationship Status: I am currently single.

Celebrity Crush: Reese Witherspoon.  Hands down, number one, no questions asked.  Although after watching “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” earlier this week, Christina Milian is a close second.

Career Goal: I want to end up being a physician, potentially a surgeon.  My friends hate hearing about how steady my hands are.  And I think I’m going to end up in pediatrics working with kids.

Campus Activities: At Vanderbilt, I am currently the co-chair of Vandy Fanatics, I am on the Vanderbilt Programming Board Executive Committee, I am the co-president of Inter-American Health Alliance, and am on the Finances committee for Manna.  More importantly, I love playing intramural soccer and sand volleyball.  Those are more fun.

Favorite Music: I listen to everything.  Whatever my roommates and friends play, I listen to. It’s pretty eclectic.  Right now, my Pandora is a shuffle of Coldplay, Drake, Avicii, NeedtoBreathe, Jay-z, Kid Cudi, and Boyce Avenue.  All over the place.

Favorite movie: Probably Remember the Titans.  I love that movie.  Left side!

What characteristics do you look for in a girl? I like girls that I can joke around with and just be a clown around.  If the girl is an athlete, I’m basically sold.  And I like a girl that looks good in sweatpants.  I figure any girl can wear a dress, but a girl that knows how to make sweats look good…that’s harder to find.

Who is your role model in life? It’s cliché but my mom.  I love that woman more than she could ever know and really appreciate everything she has done for me. Five kids and she worked after having to leave Africa as a teenager by herself.  Everything I do now is because of her.

What is the best thing about being a Commodore? I don’t know that there really is one best thing.  I go to an amazing school with great people in an awesome city.  If I had to choose one, it’s the people.  Intelligent, well-rounded, fun people.  Oh, and tort Tuesdays are pretty good.

He’s 19 years young and a soon-to-be Med School student. The people in his life call him Ken, but this week we’re calling him cutie! This self-professed poet, rapper, basketball player and sneaker enthusiast shares his interesting perspective on love and what it does to your life, his future and how you can fit into it, and why he’s different from all the rest. Read on.

Name: Kenneth Lustin
School: Rider University

Tell us about your dream girl: My dream girl is ambitious and spontaneous. It’s important to me that she maintains a good balance between business and pleasure in her life. A well-rounded female is always a plus and a must. The last thing my dream girl would be is one-dimensional.

Are you looking for love? I wouldn’t consider myself looking for love but I’m always open to the possibility. People will always argue that love will take focus off of your goals and aspirations, but real love helps you achieve those goals, not hinder it. There’s always room for love.

What’s your future looking like to you right now?
My ultimate career goal in life is to become a pediatrician, and to my own practice close to home in New York. I want to be the object of motivation for young men like me who lacked it growing up. The best way for a significant other to fit into these plans would be to do aspire to do just as well. Anyone who has a future of their own surely has a future with me if willing.

What do you have that sets you apart from all the others out here? What I believe sets me apart from others is that I’m a firm believer of chivalry. Holding doors open, pulling out chairs, lending my jacket, etc., all comes as second nature. There’s no other way in my mind to possibly treat a female but with the upmost respect.

What’s it going to take to win your heart? To win my heart honestly shouldn’t take much for the right person. If you possess all the qualities, all it will take is the effort to get my attention and I’m yours. Just be genuine, and persistent.

Any advice you can offer our Rider ladies? One piece of advice I can offer the ladies at Rider University is to not exhaust themselves trying to appeal to gentlemen. If you just continue to carry yourself like a Queen you will surely attract a King.  The best reward in doing so is attracting someone who admires you for who you are, and not the facade you present yourself with.
Tell us something… Everyone knows about you: I have a real way with words. After winning this year’s [On Fire!!] poetry slam and just interacting with people on and off campus it’s no longer a surprise.

No one knows about you: I was named after the singer/songwriter Kenneth Edmonds, better known as “Babyface”.

You wish no one knew about you: My father is just as handsome and as charming, and sometimes steals attention away from my lady friends back home. Much love and credit to him though.

Everyone should know about you: I’m one of the sweetest, funniest, charming, most down to earth people you’ll ever meet. A presumable romantic I am (and so I’ve been told). Far from typical.

Ladies, are we on the same page here? Are you Lustin’ right now? He says he’s not on the lookout for love, but ladies, he’s single! You know what that means, just because he’s not looking…

Connect with him on his Facebook page. Or Tweet him.

What’s one girl trend you don’t understand?  PMS.

What’s your favorite thing about Colby? Definitely the friends I’ve made here.

What’s your favorite pick-up line? Hey I’m Connor. How you doin’?

What is your most embarrassing moment? Absolutely eating it trying to walk down the hill next to the chapel in January.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Haven’t figured that out yet.

Which author would you want to write your biography? R.L. Stine.

What’s something quirky about you? People from Mass tell me I have a Rochester accent? Fahk you.

What’s the best thing that your mom does for you? I can only pick one? She’s always there to listen to me, and she teaches me to laugh at myself.

 Name:  Caleb Matthews
School: Stetson University
Birthday: 08/22/1991
Hometown: Nashville, Georgia
Major: Molecular Biology (PreMed)
Minor: Chemistry

Pets:  2 dogs (Cinder and Eli), 3 cats (Moe, Fluffy, and Sadie)

What you do on campus?  When I am not helping the elderly cross the street and pondering the wonderments of this day and age, I like to party. (After all schoolwork is done, of course)

What is your favorite bar/club in downtown Delan?  Ace of Clubs, to cut a rug and perhaps have a dance off

Favorite Stetson Memory:  Streaking across the soccer field

Fav professor:  Dr. Peter May

What do you look for in a woman? She must pass a three part patented approach to evaluating women: sane, single, and sexy.  In the order as they appear.

Ideal woman:  Joy Behar

Any Celebrity Crushes?  There is not a sexier woman on this earth than Carrie Underwood.  Carrie if you ever read this send me an email cmatthew@stetson.edu. I believe we would really connect on more levels than one.

Describe your perfect date:  Unplanned lunch on a Saturday afternoon perhaps in a coffeehouse or a restaurant.  We lose track of all that we were suppose to be doing that day and get caught up in one another.  Later, the restaurant kindly asks us to leave because they close shortly and we have been there for hours talking.  But time doesn’t matter to us.  So we continue the night with slow walks around the town sharing our aspirations and perspectives on the world.  In between conversations, we catch a flicker in one another’s eyes when we realize that in this world there are no coincidences.  I walk her home and, after much hesitation, we kiss goodnight.

Top 3 pet peeves when it comes to girls: Okay, number 1:  Simply put, bad breath.  I can understand if your teeth aren’t perfectly straight and pearly white, but come on ladies with the onion-fried breath.  When I run into a girl with a ripe musty mouth, I cringe.  A little mouthwash here and some flossing there go a long way.  Oh and don’t forget to brush the tongue.  Secondly, not enough junk in the trunk.  Last but not least, a girl that can’t take a little banter every once in a while.  It’s just the biggest turn off when a girl takes herself too seriously and can’t laugh at herself.  Fun = Attractive
Sport you love to play the most:  Futbol, the beautiful game.

What is your dream job?  Ice cream vendor

Favorite song to work out to:  Britney Spears – Toxic

Favorite Place in the world:  Sitting on the dock on a sunny day at the lake house with a cold beverage and a few friends.

Fav restaurant: De la Vega in downtown Deland, sangrias and tapas

Name: Spencer Reinke
Year: Northwestern University/Sophomore
Hometown: London
Relationship Status: In a relationship
Major: Econ and Pre med

Likes: Music; The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys. Sports in the most generic sense for example football. Building things, I build things way too much and my girlfriend’s cat.

Dislikes: White people who dress and speak as if they’re black, the cold and winter- I hate that it’s cold all the time.

Describe your personality: slightly outgoing, but actually really shy in new situations but I become really outgoing really quickly. I like having fun, fun things are fun. I very rarely get sad, but then I get through it. I may be a little too quick to judge others. I think I should be less judgmental…

Best talent:  Music- I play a lot of instruments: guitar, piano, drums, harmonica, violin and viola. I first learned piano. At first did it because I was supposed to and then I just picked up music really easily.

What made you want to come to Northwestern? I really like America in general. I like Chicago, and I liked the campus a lot. The people here seem a lot nicer than a lot of the places I visited.

What’s the biggest difference here from London?  The drinking age.

What are you involved in on campus?  Not very much, DU is one of the main things, pre-med stuff –although I should be more involved in that.

What is your ideal date/best date you ever had:  My ideal general date going to a Brazilian steak house for the initial component and maybe going to an awesome film that’s funny and sort of feely- not super emotional but sort of, that would be nice, and then going to a theme park. Then I guess just go to my place and relax and chill. And let me show off my cool drink-making abilities.

Anything else we should know? I have a great deal of interest in this religious sect- that holds this belief that lizards rule the world. Some dude founded it and he was like a coach before and then he realized that the world was being controlled by the lizards.  Everyone in government  is a shapeshifting alien lizard-George Bush and Queen Elizabeth and they also eat kittens although I’m not totally sure about that last part.

Why Her Campus Northwestern loves Spencer: With his off-beat sense of humor and awesome accent what’s not to love?

Major: Pre-Med, Political Science
Relationship Status: Single

Celebrity Crush: This was always pre-druggie Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls, anyone?), but I have recently converted. Kate Upton is quite possibly the most beautiful human being I have ever seen.

Career Goal: I would love to open a private doctor’s office. After that, maybe politics?

Campus Activities: Murray House President, VSG House member, Member Camps Services committee

Favorite Music: I will listen to mostly anything, but I am a big classic rock guy. I love Tom Petty, Bob Seger, and The Rolling Stones. I am probably the biggest Elton John fan ever. Old Country is also a must, ie. Don Williams.

What characteristics do you look for in a girl? Girls for me have to be outgoing and able to carry on a conversation. Physically, I am a sucker for long hair and big eyes.  I also look for someone who likes to have fun but is also grounded at the same time. I am a hopeless romantic, so I could go on for days.

Feelings on…

Makeup? So many girls overdo their makeup. A little bit is alright, but I want to see the girl, not an inch of makeup. I am also a fan of the random no-makeup days.

Cowboy boots?I grew up on a farm in Tennessee, so it is funny seeing all the girls who think they are cowgirls. That being said, I am a fan.

Ponytails? Eh. Every now and then, but curly hair never gets old.

Leggings as pants? God bless the first person that did that.

Eating more than salads and Greek yogurt? Nothing is worse than taking a girl out and having them get salad and a water. There is something to be said for a girl who you can actually enjoy a meal with.

“Are there any ladies out there that love a man with intelligence? Chao is a premed student and future surgeon studying in cell and molecular biology. But, he still makes time for fun like dancing (even though he says he’s not that great at it) and being active, playing sports and being outdoors. He also has an amazing memory capacity and is a great listener.”

What you do on campus/in Hamilton: In my free time, I sing in the  Colgate Resolutions, I work at La Iguana one or two nights a week, work  out now and then, and I’m a Benton Scholar.

Where is your favorite place on campus/in Hamilton: I’m a big fan of my  suite- we got pretty lucky and landed a six person on the Sophomore floor of Curtis. Slices at 2:30am is also great…
