Lose the Freshman 15: Falling short of my mini goal

Like I predicted, today was not the best weigh-in day. I only lost 1 pound this past week, leaving me 1.5 pounds short of my weekly goal. This brings my total weight loss over the past five weeks to 6.5 pounds.

I’m halfway through the program, but only a third of the way to my goal. I always, always, at a bare minimum, meet my goals; most of the time I exceed them. Failure to meet this goal is not an option for me, so I really need to step it up during the next few weeks to make sure I reach what I set out to accomplish. It’s time to get serious — and here’s how I’m going to do it:

No more alcohol: Yesterday I wrote about seriously limiting my alcohol intake, but let’s be honest, I need to cut it out completely. On the days I drink, my caloric intake usually doubles. Alcohol is filled with sugar, carbs and empty calories, and if I want to reach my goal, I’m going to have to give it up cold turkey.

Try new meals: When I find a song that I like, I have no problem listening to it on repeat for hours. And I’m the same way with food. If I find a meal that I like, I’ll eat it every day for weeks at a time without getting bored. These past few weeks I’ve had a lot of turkey sandwiches with fruit and popchips and a lot of egg white omelets.  Hopefully by trying some more Jump Start Diet meals, I’ll be able to rev up my metabolism with a greater variety of fat burning ingredients.

Staying positive: I hate falling short of a goal. It’s one of the few things that genuinely makes me angry. But! I have to look at the big picture. Even though I didn’t lose as much weight as I wanted to, I still lost some. More importantly, I’m making healthier choices every day and treating my body better than I have in years. Getting mad at myself over a few pounds isn’t going to help anyone. It’s important that I stay positive and learn from my mistakes instead of dwelling on them.

My goal is to lose a total of 18 pounds by the end of the ten weeks. With 11.5 pounds left to loose and five weeks left in the program, I have to lose a little less than 2.5 pounds per week to meet my goal.

Since I missed my mark last week, my goal this week is to lose 3 pounds.

It’s go time,

Samantha
