HC Abroad: Zurich Adventures

Hey Collegiettes™, hope you’ve all had a great week so far! I’ve spent most of the week working on finishing my history essay so that I won’t have to worry about it this weekend when I’m away in Prague visiting my friend, Sarah. I’m really looking forward to catching up with her, checking out the sites, and experiencing all that Prague has to offer! I’m sure I’ll have more than enough to tell you next Thursday when I return from my trip.

As for this past weekend, I left the United Kingdom for the first time and spent 3 days in the breathtakingly beautiful city of Zurich! A good friend of mine from high school, Dominique, is studying at the prestigious Ecole Hoteleire in Lausanne so we decided to meet up in Zurich to check out the city together. After hearing about her amazing school, I’m definitely planning on making the trip to Lausanne at some point next semester.

We both arrived in Zurich last Friday afternoon – Dom via train and me via bus, train, plane, and then another train (getting out of central London can be a bit tricky). It was the first time I had ever flown EasyJet and no pun intended, but it was the easiest flight I’ve ever taken! Seriously. We boarded the plane 20 minutes before our schedule departure, took off on time, and landed 15 minutes early.  Upon arriving in Zurich, I met Dom at our hotel and we spent the better part of the afternoon walking around the city and figuring out our bearings. I must say, I was somewhat surprised by how quiet and small Zurich seemed to be. Definitely a change from the chaotic streets of London! Friday night we met up with a Swiss friend of Dom’s who took us out for a crazy night on the town. And by crazy, I mean crazy expensive! 50 francs for 3 drinks … If you do the math, that’s a little over $60!!

After a slow Saturday morning, Dom and I got our act together and spent the day roaming the streets, checking out the stores, and snapping pictures of the gorgeous scenery. We opted for a quiet night with dinner at a festive Indian restaurant and a movie date at the local cinema to see “I Don’t Know How She Does It.” Such a cute movie! Not that I’m surprised … SJP never lets me down!

Dom and I woke up extra early Sunday morning to grab coffee at Starbucks, check our emails, and plan the remaining hours of our time in Zurich. We went with the advice from the hotel concierge and took the S10 train from the center of Zurich to the top of Uetlibergahn where we spent the day walking through the woods and indulging in German sausages! The view from the top of Uetlibergahn was amazing and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was the perfect way to spend our last day in Zurich!

Sadly our trip had to come to an end Sunday night with Dom taking the train back to Lausanne and me taking a train, plane, train, and bus back to my dorm … If you’re thinking about planning a trip to Europe, Zurich is a must see!! Just make sure you bring some extra cash (even Starbucks will cost you well over 10 francs)!

That’s it for now Collegiettes™! Make sure to check in next Thursday to hear all about my trip to Prague. Also, if you’re interested in seeing more of my pictures from Zurich, take a look at my personal blog, Chic+Geek. Have a great weekend!!

Love,
Marissa
