HC Abroad: Stonehenge and Bath

Hello Collegiettes™! Hope your Thursdays are off to a great start! Now that classes have finally started for me over here in London, I’ve got a jam-packed day ahead of me beginning with a 9:00 AM Corporate Finance class … Time to hit the books!

This past weekend I left the beautiful city of London behind for the first time since arriving here nearly 4 weeks ago. My classmates and I took off on a coach bus at 8:00 AM Saturday morning for a guided tour of the gorgeous English countryside! First stop – Stonehenge, the UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 2 hours outside London in the county of Wiltshire.

My classmates and I spent the morning walking around the site, taking pictures, and listening to our guided audio tours. Stonehenge, which was constructed in three separate phases, dates back to 3100 BC. While no one seems to know the exact reason behind why Stonehenge was built, many historians suggest it was used as a setting for religious ceremonies as well as astrological studies. If you want to learn more about Stonehenge and how it was constructed, check out the site’s webpage here.

Second stop – Bath, one of the most beautiful and relaxing cities I’ve ever visited! I could have spent days roaming the city streets and people watching in the local cafes! Sadly we only had a few hours to take in the busy cobblestone roads, the ancient Roman Baths, and the adorable boutiques and restaurants … I’m thinking I may need to make a weekend trip back to Bath at some point in the spring. Who wants in?

(Indulging in a piece (make that 3 pieces) of fudge!)

After breaking for lunch and stopping by the local chocolate shop to satisfy my sweet tooth with some homemade peanut butter fudge, my classmates and I gathered in the city center to explore the infamous Roman Baths. Believe it or not, we were told that the temperature of the hot water that flows into the Great Bath is 46 degrees Celsius, or approximately 114.8 degrees Fahrenheit  … Talk about a HOT tub!

This coming weekend I’m off to Hastings, a town that lies on the south coast of England. According to my itinerary, I’m going to have the chance to visit Hastings Castle during the day and experience a firework show during the evening. I’m really looking forward to another weekend of English exploration with my fellow classmates!

That’s it for now Collegiettes™! If you’re interested in seeing more pictures from my trip to Stonehenge and Bath, make sure to check out my personal blog, Chic+Geek! Have an amazing weekend and keep your eyes out for my next blog post!

Love,
Marissa
