HC Abroad: Emerald Isle and Spain!

The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind! After my last post, I stayed in Ireland for a few more days.  My class went on a trip to the Aran Islands and for the first time on the Ireland trip, it was sunny! The coastline was beautiful and I had a lovely time wandering out to the seal beach with some friends and then lunching along the seaside.

After the jam packed weekend, I took the bus back to Dublin for a little R&R. Walking around the city, eating cupcakes and watching silly Irish television was a great end to my Ireland adventure.

On Sunday I continued my adventures in Spain! I headed off to Barcelona with two of my friends. This was my first major international trip with friends and it was so much fun! Our hotel was located right along the Grand Vie putting us in the center of the city. After settling into our hotel we ventured out in search of food and sunshine.

The line for La Sagrada Famiglia was too long so after resolving to come back one early morning, we bought ice cream and decided to hang out down by the port for a few hours. The water there is breathtaking and the weather couldn’t have been better—it was hard to believe that only a few days before we’d needed winter coats

Our second full day in Barcelona, we opted for a little culture and a lot of fun. Museo Picasso was a great way to start the day and brought us to a part of the city filled with tiny alleys and adorable shops! The museum itself wasn’t really my cup of tea but it was interesting to see how utterly normal Picasso’s work was in the early years.

After getting our fill of art, my friends and I headed off to find lunch and then were distracted by Museo Xiocolata. That’s right: A Chocolate Museum. Yum!

The next day I visited La Sagrada Famiglia for real, and I’m so glad that I did. The inside is unlike anything I’ve ever seen! I can’t imagine what it will look like when it’s finally completed.

On Thursday I flew out of Barcelona to meet my mom in London. We spent a rather short night in a Heathrow Hotel and got up at 3am to catch a flight to Edinburgh, Scotland.

In the future she hopes to go to graduate school for library science and share her love of books with the world.
