The Best Color To Wear To Graduation, Based On Your Cap & Gown Color

As the honorable Taylor Swift once said, long story short, we survived, seniors! With graduation quickly approaching, seniors have a lot on their plates, like studying for finals, planning graduation parties, and simply just focusing on or organizing summer plans. As a graduating college senior, I feel the chaos, too. But one of the biggest stressors I found myself going crazy about was what I was going to wear for my graduation ceremony. Two problems I kept running into included: 1. Finding a dress that vibed with my personality and 2. Finding that dress in the perfect color that matched my cap and gown.

Now, I could play it safe and buy a white dress, which many girlies rock during graduation festivities. But I wanted something a bit bolder, and — if I’m being honest — something a little extra. While searching for the perfect dress, I found so many outfit options that would work seamlessly with each cap and gown color, and will make you stand out from the crowd! There are so many amazing spring colors that you could rock at your graduation that also don’t clash with the color of your graduation robes.

Here are some of the best color combos to make you look like a stunner at your graduation!

What To Wear If Your Robe Is Black

Consider yourself lucky if you have a black robe, because your options are endless! Black can literally go with anything, so have fun with it. If you don’t want to go for white, choose a bright color, like pink, red, blue, purple, or your other school color.

What To Wear If Your Robe Is White

White robes are great because, like black, they can go with mostly anything! With white robes, look for softer colors, or opt for a dress that matches your school’s other color. I suggest baby blue, lavender, burgundy, pastel green, or yellow, or even floral looks to give a little more dimension to your outfit.

What To Wear If Your Robe Is Blue

Depending on the shade of blue, the best option I’ve seen that looks amazing is to wear a white outfit with pops of floral colors that match the robe’s blue. Or, opt for a fun black look.

What To Wear If Your Robe Is Red

Red robes already give you a pop of color, so I’d suggest a plain, clean white dress paired with red heels that match the red of your robe.

What To Wear If Your Robe Is Yellow

Whether your yellow robe is more gold or pastel, a light pink or white look with pink florals would look so cute, and would emulate those spring vibes!

What To Wear If Your Robe Is Green

The best options for green robes are, of course, white and black dresses, but also consider a dress that matches the shade of green your gown is for a monochrome look!
