‘Wicked’ to be Made into Film Adaptation

Attention, Broadway fanatics: Wicked is officially being adapted from the stage to the big screen.

According to Marc Platt, producer of the insanely “pop-u-lar” musical, Wicked is going to be made into a full-length feature film. “For sure, there will be a movie,” he said. “I just can’t say when.”

Chairman of Universal Pictures Adam Fogelson confirmed as well that a film adaptation of Wicked would “be coming to the screen sooner rather than later.”

Originally, when Marc was still serving as president of Universal Studios, he thought that Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West would make for a great film. However, unable to find an adequate screenplay, Marc went the theatrical route instead and collaborated with composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz to make the book into a musical.

Marc said that the story of Wicked will always have special meaning to him “because for whatever reason, it reaches out and not only entertains, which is the primary goal, but it touches people.”

We’ve already seen Wicked defy gravity… Let’s see if it will defy box office sales as well! Is it too soon for us to preorder our tickets?
