Why Men Love B*tches – A Book Review

“Sex appeal is 50% what you’ve got, and 50% what people think you’ve got.” –Sophia Loren

It’s true. Men love bitches.

No, a bitch is not a female dog, someone who whines all the time, or that girl who religiously follows betcheslovethis.com. According to New York Times bestselling Author, Sherry Argov, a bitch is:

Bitch (noun)- A woman who won’t bang her head against the wall obsessing over someone else’s opinion—be it a man or anyone else in her life. She understands that if someone does not approve of her, it’s just one person’s opinion; therefore, it’s of no real importance. She doesn’t try to live up to anyone else’s standards—only her own. Because of this, she relates to men very differently.

Through the use of hilarious real-life scenarios, attraction principles, comparative charts, and animated guides—my personal favorite being, “How to fake an orgasm”—Argov explains why men are attracted to strong, independent women who stand up for themselves.

Are you a bitch? Here are some examples of what a bitch does not do.
A bitch does not…

  • Call or text a man frequently.
  • Ask where a man is or what he’s doing.
  • Say ‘you don’t call me enough,’ or ‘you never tell me you love me.’ Unpredictability is her asset.
  • See a guy every night of the week. A woman who is easy won’t scratch his competitive itch.
  • Agree with everything he says. When you never express your opinion, a man starts feeling bored.
  • Go looking for him or chase him down at three different places where he said he might be having a drink. Let him come track you down.
  • Get mad when he doesn’t call you in four days. A bitch has her own life.
  • Compromise herself for a man.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh or a fun, easy read. This national bestseller has caught the attention of many TV show hosts, celebrities, and men and women everywhere.

Here are what Columbia students have to say about bitches…

  • “Men love bitches because…I honestly don’t know.” -Talene Malkasian, CC ’13
  • “Men love bitches because sometimes brotherly love just isn’t enough.” -Anders Smedsrud CC ‘14
  • “Men love bitches because we (yes, WE) present a challenge to them. Men have an intrinsic desire to be the alpha dog, so when they encounter an alpha woman, they need to figure out a way to ‘beat’ them in some way. Thus, they get attracted and get their hearts broken.”-Jess Levenson, BC ‘14
