BTS’ Jin Has A Good Reason For Not Going To The Grammys This Year

Calling the BTS Army! As I’m sure we all know by now, BTS scored three Grammy noms this year. They’re up for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (for the third year in a row) with “My Universe,” a collab with Coldplay, as well as Best Music Video for “Yet to Come” and for Album of the Year as featured artists on Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres.

This is the first year that BTS has been nominated in more than one category and wouldn’t it be, like, awesome if they all got to receive their rightfully-earned Grammys in person? Unfortunately, out of all the guys, we can say for sure we know Jin, whose birth name is Kim Seokjin, won’t be attending the ceremony.

The eldest BTS member started his mandatory military service at the end of 2022 and he’ll be spending time with a different kind of army on Grammy night. With cropped hair and a loyal Insta-fanbase, Jin has been keeping viewers posted online while he still can. The Defense Ministry said Jin is expected to finish his service in June 2024, but the other members are expected to follow him to the South Korean military before long. At this time, it has not been announced which member of the group will enlist next.

In recent Jin news, we know he’s still busting out his boy band moves in basic training. He taught a group of fellow soldiers a dance routine and with it, they won a South Korean military talent show. The prize: an extra day of vacation!

It’s not the same as a Grammys appearance, but I’ll take whatever Jin crumbs I can get. There is buzz that RM, aka Kim Namjoon, and Jungkook may attend the Grammys together, but nothing is certain yet.

In the meantime, everyone can bask in the fact that despite being on a break, BTS is still winning. I don’t know about you, but I’m counting down to Feb. 5 for the 2023 Grammys, and 2025 for a BTS comeback.
