In The “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok Trend, Creators Are The Main Characters

Do you ever just ramble for nearly twenty minutes straight about your day to your significant other, or accidentally overshare to someone you met on Bumble who you barely know? Or, do you ever just mini vlog your entire day as if you’re a popular YouTuber and post it to your private Snapchat story, even though no one asked (yes, I’m 100% guilty of this)? If any of these scenarios apply to you, then the new “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok trend is for you.

Inspired by an iconic Hilary Duff audio clip, the “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok trend is for anyone who sometimes likes to act like they’re the main character — but, in a way, aren’t we all the main character of our own lives? Whether you’re prone to rambling on the phone for two hours to your childhood bestie or oversharing with your work bestie, the “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok trend reminds us all that it’s okay to be the main character from time to time.

Where does the trending sound originate?

If you were an OG Lizzie McGuire fan, you’ll totally know the origin story of this trend. User @bbytreezy posted the original video to TikTok in early May, which is a clip of a young Hilary Duff smiling and talking to the camera. In the video, Hilary cheerily said, “Well, that’s my life! Thank you so much for spending time with me. I hope you enjoyed it, because I know I did.” The clip is laughably cheesy and artificial, reminiscent of the syrupy nature of young teenage Disney Channel stars.

The snippet of the video originally came from a day-in-the-life video from Hilary Duff when she was in the prime of her Lizzie McGuire era, posted to VideoNow in 2003. While the video was totally cool back in the early 2000s, looking back on it now, it’s pretty cringeworthy — but we have to give Hilary credit for basically starting the era of YouTube vloggers.

In the “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok trend, creators share every intimate detail of their lives.

The “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok trend is basically the opportunity to be an open book — and while I’m usually a pretty private person, I am sometimes guilty of unsolicitedly spilling every detail of my life to my bestie even though she didn’t ask, including what I ate for breakfast and what kind of dry shampoo I used when styling my hair.

For instance, user @hannahferguson__ admitted to sending nearly twenty voice memos to her BFF, while @helena.neilsm confessed to sharing every bit of juicy gossip she hears to her friend group. Several creators also admitted to oversharing during their first dates about their familial trauma and friendship drama. The trend has even made its way to astrology TikTok (as a Sagittarius myself, I feel like I’m being called out here).

Trying the “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok Trend is easy.

The “Well, That’s My Life” TikTok trend is a piece of cake to try. Just think of the times you’ve rambled on to someone — like maybe that one time when you overshared with your boss about something unrelated to work during your virtual one-on-one meeting, or when you made your family watch K-pop music videos for your birthday — and get to filming! You can also look through the trending audio to gain some inspiration.

Well, that’s my life — I hope you enjoyed this article, because I know I did!
