Trump’s Campaign Manager Becomes the First Woman to Successfully Run a Presidential Campaign

Donald Trump’s win in the 2016 presidential election may not feel like a win for women, but his campaign was the first to be successful with a female leader, according to The Week

Kellyanne Conway became the first woman to ever run a Republican presidential campaign when she took the position in August, according to Cosmopolitan, but now she broke even more new ground by actually winning.

Conway, 49, is an expert in advising politicians on how to appeal to female voters, according to Cosmo. A magna cum laude graduate of Trinity College in D.C., and a law graduate of George Washington University, Conway is well-educated in politics.

It’s only appropriate that a woman who broke a significant glass ceiling in this election was raised by women. Conway’s parents divorced when she was 3 years old. “I grew up in a house with my mom and her mom, and two of my mother’s unmarried sisters. So four Italian Catholic women raised me,” she told Newsmax.

Conway was initially hesitant to join Trump’s campaign, Bustle reports, but after working for a Ted Cruz Super PAC until he lost in the primaries, she decided to get behind the nominee. She originally met Trump in 2006 when she served on the board of one of his condos.

That this campaign went the way it did with Conway in charge was no coincidence—there’s a line of success that can be drawn from when Conway joined the campaign to Trump’s historic upset Tuesday night. Bustle reports that it is clear that Conway’s management turned the Trump campaign around when the controversial figure was facing a downturn in the polls. Although behind every powerful man is an even more powerful woman, it will be interesting to see whether this real-life Olivia Pope can get Trump to change his approach towards women.
