Spicing up my diet

I love ethnic cuisines. My friends can attest to the fact that I am always way more excited to go out to eat if it involves Greek, Thai, Indian or Japanese food. Though some of these types of cuisines are often seen as unhealthy, just like at any restaurant, if you make smart choices you can spice up (literally with Indian and Thai) your diet without killing it.

Greek and Japanese are my favorite, mainly because there are so many delicious options that also just so happen to be healthy. As long as you steer clear of all the pita bread at a Greek restaurant and go for the many grilled chicken and vegetable options then you can easily have a healthy meal. Sushi can also be a great choice if you avoid the fried variety or those with fattening sauces.

Tonight a friend and I went to a restaurant that had Japanese and Thai food. Though I love sushi, it is not the best meal for keeping to a budget, so I decided to try something new for a change. I also love pad Thai, but since that involves a carb overload I proudly opted for something else instead; curry with vegetables and chicken.

So the morale of the story is, even if you are in an environment that might not have the reputation of offering healthy options, there is always something you can find that will suffice as a nutritional choice and not ruin your great progress with the SELF Jump Start Diet!
