Prince William is officially going to be the best man at his brother Prince Harry’s upcoming wedding.
“Prince Harry has asked his brother The Duke of Cambridge to be his Best Man at his wedding to Ms. Meghan Markle,” Kensington Palace announced in a statement released Thursday. “The Duke of Cambridge is honored to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19th.”
Of course, it’s no surprise that William will be Harry’s best man, seeing as Harry served as best man at William’s wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011.
Back in January, Prince William was asked by U.K. radio host Roman Kemp about his plans for his little bro’s wedding. “He hasn’t asked me yet, just to clear that up. It could be a sensitive subject,” he joked.
The Duke of Cambridge then went on to talk about his close relationship with his brother. “Our relationship is closer than it’s been because of the situation we’ve been through,” he said, referring to the 1997 death of their mother, Princess Diana. “Losing our mother at a young age, it’s helped us travel through that difficult patch together. You’re like-minded. You go through similar things—it’s a bond, and it’s something you know you’ve tackled together and come out better for it.”
“That’s the thing about being a best mate, inevitably one of you is sometimes on an up, while the other is on a down. You’re always there for each other and repaying that favor,” William continued.
Harry is set to marry actress Meghan Markle on May 19th. William shared a sweet moment with Meghan on Wednesday, kissing his future sister-in-law on the cheek while greeting her outside of Westminster Abbey.
So far, William, who recently welcomed his third child with Kate Middleton, a boy, is the only confirmed member of the wedding party for Harry and Meghan’s upcoming nuptials. Meghan’s good friend Priyanka Chopra revealed in a interview with PEOPLE Now that she will not be a bridesmaid. “I’m super excited about her and her big day. It’s not just going to be life-changing for both of them, it’s life-changing for the world that needs to see strong women as icons, and I think Meghan has the potential to be that.”
