Take the Second Annual Winter Break Challenge (For a SAFER, Rape-Free Campus)!

Students Active for Ending Rape, or SAFER, has teamed up with V-Day to announce the second annual Winter Break Challenge. This challenge encourages collegiettes™ across the nation to submit their campus’ sexual violence policies to the Campus Accountability Project’s database.

Often university campuses have policies which are notoriously hedged against victims. For example, a 20-year-old victim who comes forward with an assault that occurred while drinking could be charged with an underage drinking violation, rather than receiving help for the assault.

In order to help improve sexual violence policies across the nation, college students are encouraged to submit their university’s policies at www.safercampus.org, a site that allows you to submit the information in an easy, step-by-step policy review form.

In a recent press release, Sarah Martino, the Board Chair of SAFER, reminded college students that it is important for them to get involved with campus policies if they want to see change. “Young people too often fall through the cracks of their campus bureaucracy. Policy is the first step to building an effective movement on campus,” she said.

So jump on it, collegiettes™! Submit your school’s policy today (the policies can usually be found on your university’s website) at www.safercampus.org, and then spread to word to your friends on all of your favorite social media outlets!
