Michelle Obama is a master of many things, and now we can add wedding officiator to that list, according to People.
On Saturday, a couple from Chicago was quite literally blessed with the presence of the former first lady. To say I’m jealous is an understatement. Besides the fact that she was there, she also helped to wed them. Who else can say that they got married at the hands of one of the finest women this country has seen? Put that on your LinkedIn.
The lucky couple, Stephanie Rivkin and Joel Sircus, met in high school and had their wedding ceremony in Chicago. Rivkin’s mom and dad had the hook up for this unbelievable wedding gift. Robert S. Rivkin is the deputy mayor of Chicago, The New York Times reports, and Stephanie’s mother was the Director of President’s Commission on White House Fellowships during Obama’s time in office, according to People.
The couple’s New York Times wedding announcement, however, reports that the wedding was officiated by “Robert M. Dresser, a friend of the couple who became a Universal Life minister for the event.”
News got out about Obama’s reported appearance when an overly eager wedding guest posted a Instagram video of the former first lady at the wedding altar with the couple. TMZ first reported the-now deleted Instagram story, which shows Obama reciting vows into a microphone and handing it over to Rivkin to repeat the vows.
The post read: “Holy Moly,” with a heart emoji. “That moment when Michelle Obama officiated at your (cousin’s) wedding!”
The alleged clip showed the former first lady wearing a black, long-sleeve dress. It’s unclear if she also attended the reception.
Either way, Michelle Obama was definitely there and that’s enough to make me wish I was there, too.
