Nine-year-old Dane Best stood up against a decades old anti-snowball fight bill in his hometown of Severance, Colorado – and won. On Monday, Best gave a three minute presentation to the Severance Town Board on why the ban should be lifted.
The Greeley Tribune reported that Best found out about the ban during a field trip and decided to take action. The ban is part of a larger ordinance restricting missiles and rocks being thrown at people or property and snowballs fell under the definition of missiles.

Best celebrated his legislative victory by throwing the town’s first legal snowballs with his 4-year-old brother, Dax Best. Mayor Don McLeod presented the snowballs to the young boys as they celebrated the official end of the ban.
Best’s grandfather, Rick Best, told reporters at The Greeley Tribune how important it was for children to learn about their influence in local government and that Best has “always been timid and bashful, so when he told me he was doing that, I said, ‘Good for you, Daners.’”
CBS News hinted that Best’s legal fights with the Severance Town Board may not end at legalizing snowballs.
Best’s pet guinea pig is also reportedly illegal in his small town as another ordinance define only cats and dogs as pets.
