Meghan Markle Confirms Her Father Will Not Attend Her Wedding & I Volunteer to Walk Her Down The Aisle

If you aren’t following our countdown to the royal wedding and you aren’t sleuthing every media outlet for every newsworthy update about this international holiday, then what have you been doing since November 2017? Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding is in less than two days, and between Dunkin Donut’s wedding-themed doughnut and this dynamic duo’s overall fairytale romance, we aren’t sure what to be more excited about (probably their love story). Amid all the gushing details, there is some heartbreaking news on the Royal Wedding front, besides the fact that you weren’t included in the bridal party.

Following the unrelated paparazzi scandal, Meghan Markle has now officially confirmed that her father, Thomas Markle Sr., won’t be attending her wedding due to health complications.

After an intensive heart surgery on Wednesday, her father will spend some necessary time recovery at home, The Telegraph reports.

In a formal statement released by Kensington Palace, Markle writes, “My father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health. I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday.”

While it can be disheartening to find out that your father can’t make it to your wedding, The Washington Post notes that Markle understands that her father needs time to recuperate from his medical procedure.

Thankfully, though not at all the same, Mr. Markle can watch his daughter’s royal wedding on TV, while he focuses on his health and well-being.

Now, the only question that remains is, who’s going to walk Meghan Markle down the aisle?

Some of her unofficial, albeit self-imposed, responsibilities include arguing about the Oxford comma, fangirling about other writers' articles, and pitching Her Campus's editors shamelessly nerdy content (at ambiguously late/early hours, nonetheless).
