Lose the Freshman 15: I’m Baaaaaaaaaaack!

I know this is déjà vu, but I am so incredibly sorry for being MIA again! It’s not that I don’t want to blog daily, but my schedule this week barely left me time to sleep. I’ve been running non-stop. I have so much to update you all on, some good news and some bad.

First, I did go home last weekend and I did pretty well sticking to my diet. Unfortunately, it was a lot of eating out, but I chose from the healthy menu every time. However, eating out in general isn’t the best option, even if the calorie limit seems reasonable. One of the meals that I had to blog about is my ‘surf and turf’ dinner at Applebees for under 550 calories. I ordered the Sirloin with Garlic Herb Shrimp—a 7 oz. sirloin grilled and topped with shrimp in a light cream sauce and served with herb potatoes, seasonal vegetables, fresh bruschetta, sliced almonds and chopped parsley. It was so yummy, my plate was completely bare! On my last day at home, my Grammy cooked oven-fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cabbage with apple bread as dessert. I hadn’t had a homecooked meal in months and I loved every bite. I enjoyed this meal more, just because it was easy to control my portion sizes.

I didn’t get to work out at home. My schedule was so tight and I was barely in my house at all during the day. To be honest, I haven’t been able to work out in about a week and I’m really bummed about it. When I say my schedule is busy, I’m not joking. I tried to stay on top of my massive amount of homework and midterms and at the end of the day, I was so exhausted and there was no time for the gym. However, today I’m starting off fresh in the gym and will be going consistently again.

I’ve noticed that my hardest obstacle to overcome is sticking to my plan during the chaos of a busy schedule. It’s easy to grab the quickest meal option, which is most likely not the healthiest. And it’s easy to choose an extra hour or two of sleep over working out. But I’m don’t want to take the easy road. Back on track I go! I have been reading Sara’s blog and she is having a great amount of success with planning her meals. I am going to try planning my meals more this upcoming week and see if that helps me stay on track throughout the busy school week.

With that being said, I was not able to reach with goal of being in the 170’s by my birthday. I actually gained a bit of weight over the week and it definitely has me in a funk. But I can’t dwell on it or slump around, all I can do is get moving and start fresh! Have you had any obstacles lately? What do you do to stay on track during a busy week? Please help me out!
