Lose the Freshman 15: Embracing a “Mistake”

Yesterday was a rainy day here at Myrtle Beach, which made for the perfect lazy day at the beach.  I slept in late, went shopping, and watched movies. The day was going great until dinnertime. I was not able to resist the temptation of pizza, which is my all time favorite food. My night included ordering pizza and watching the Jersey Shore (my first time watching it!) with my friends.  Instead of making dinner a healthier option I found myself eating multiple slices of pizza.  I felt horrible afterwards. I shouldn’t have let myself eat like that.

I was thinking about my “mistake” from last night, when I remembered Jillian’s Instant Inspiration, Embrace a “bad” day.  Her inspiration helped me feel better about myself. One line that stuck with me is, “Understand that messing up is an integral part of success.” I gave into the pizza last night, but that “mistake” is not going to define how the upcoming weeks on the SELF Jumpstart Diet are going to go. Today has already been better and I have already forgiven myself from last night and moved on. Every day is a brand new day!

Spring break is almost over, but I’m looking forward to getting back to JMU and getting into a routine again. And I’m excited to get my roommate involved in the program too!

How do you stay motivated after making a “mistake?”  Continue to follow me through my journey by reading my blogs and on Twitter (@Short3).

Elizabeth is a senior writing and rhetoric major at James Madison University with a minor in communication studies. She is involved in many activities on campus including a job with University Unions, where she writes articles for the website and contributes to the blog. Elizabeth hopes to get a job after graduation that will involve lots of writing, whether that be at a publication or doing PR. But for now she is enjoying the little time she has left at JMU.
